For comfortable slumber during your spring-and-summer backpacking trips, look no further than the Big Agnes Mystic SL Sleeping Bag. A unique, lightweight design and 800-fill goose down insulation rated to 15F keep you toasty from dusk until dawn. Big Agnes eliminated insulation on the underside of this bag (where it would compress and lose effectiveness) in favor of a sleeping pad sleeve—a construction that makes the Mystic more packable and means that you can't roll off your padding at night.

  • Big Agnes sleeping bags leave out the bottom insulation both to save weight and because down compressed by your body weight loses most of its insulating value
  • Note: bag requires a 20-inch-wide rectangular sleeping pad to be fully insulated (sleeping pad available separately)
  • Feathery-light Pertex shell fabric uses a water-resistant surface treatment to keep goose down insulation protected from frost and condensation
  • Insotect Flow construction uses vertical chambers with interior gates that control movement of down so as to equalize insulation distribution for uniform warmth throughout the bag
  • No-draft zipper tube, collar seals, and wedge between the bag and pad virtually eliminate areas of cold-air leak
  • Interior fabric loops attach to a sleeping bag liner that provides an additional measure of warmth
  • Left- and right-zip Big Agnes bags with the same zipper size can be mated to create one large sleeping space for couples
  • Built-in pillow pocket holds a fleece or Big Agnes pillow

Bottom Line: Baffling warmth in a package fit for a king.

Does anyone know if the temperature limit on this bag is a comfort

Does anyone know if the temperature limit on this bag is a comfort limit or extreme limit? For example - if I use this bag at, say, 30 degrees, will it be excessively warm? Conversely, could it go down to say 5 degrees without me freezing to death?

A sleeping bag's temperature rating identifies the lowest temperature at which a bag will keep the average sleeper warm. Everyone is different and comfort will vary greatly between users. If it is colder than you feel comfortable you can add a liner or sleep in your down. If it is warmer usually opening up the zipper will cool you down enough to be comfortable.

First times a charm

This was my first BA bag and I was just jumping in feet first into the no insulation on the bottom/ pad is the bottom system. After using it a couple of nights I see the merits of the system. It is warm, it is light and packable, and I am always on my pad. I tend to toss and turn a fair amount while sleeping and occasionally would end up cold since I was sleeping next to my pad, this is no longer the case and I am sold on the system. There are times I am not bringing a pad so I tend to stick with some of my traditional pads for those situations (where I will be sleeping on my rope or whatever else is around).

The description says it requires a twenty inch sleeping pad,

The description says it requires a twenty inch sleeping pad, but will it accommodate a twenty five inch pad as well?

This bag saves me weight and gives me a better range of temperature coverage. The Big Agnes system for holding a sleeping pad is the best way to get a good nights sleep. I highly recommend any of the Big Agnes products.
