The Big Agnes Iron Mountain Air Sleeping Pad will have you sawing logs in no time. At 2.5-inches thick, this deluxe pad provides plenty of cushioning for all types of summer overnighters—from backpacking trips to car camping. But plush comfort doesn't have to mean lots of bulk—the Iron Mountain fits into an included stuff sack that's about the size of a Nalgene. Bonus: This pad comes with a repair kit, and if you have a Big Agnes sleeping bag, you can deflate the Iron Mountain while it's still in the bag's pad sleeve, and stuff it all into a compression sack.

Bottom Line: A deluxe air pad for summer slumbers.

Great, light pad

By:

I love this pad. It packs down to the size of a nalgene, it's lightweight, and it blows up super comfy. It's not self-inflating and it does take a lot of breath to inflate. Also, it's a little squeaky, and not necessarily the warmest pad with an R value of 1. But those are small gripes for the comfort.

The R-Value of this pad is 1. Air itself also has insulating properties. Since the air in the pad is not in anyway encapsulated, the R-value is just 1. This pad will not "suck heat from your body" as Jason said.

Great Pad

Blows up huge (15 breaths) and packs down small. It rolls easily, fits in the stuffsack easily, and it's really cushy and nice to sleep on. One problem I could see is rolling off of it, but I move a fair bit in my sleep and I've never done it. It's great to sleep on the back or on the side. I can't think of anything wrong with it at all.

smaller than a nalgene

By:
January 13, 2009

the description is inaccurate: this pad folds down to SMALLER THAN A NALGENE. it is really incredible, actually. SUPER LIGHT pad, super compact, and most importantly: super comfortable. i'm a side sleeper and a very light sleeper, and its hard to get to sleep on foam or foam-air pads, but this is great. after trying this pad out at REI, i decided that i had to buy it. of course, backcountry had it at half the price...

Rolls down to nothin' in no time. Break camp and on the trail in a matter of minutes. Not that it's all about the mattress, but it's nice when you've got a early storm rollin' in and you're not trying to squeeze the last bit of air out. It's an unplug, roll and stow. Definitely not the weak link in the get-the-heck-out-quick scenario.
