By definition, the solo backpacker gets stuck with all the gear, but cut yourself a break with the ultralight Big Agnes Fly Creek 1 Platinum Tent, a freestanding shelter that lightens your load without sacrificing performance and protection. An all-mesh body ventilates and provides a view of the stars, and the silicone- and PU-treated fly acts like a hostile bouncer, turning water away before it can get in the door and cause trouble. Zipper storm flaps and fully taped seams give it some back up, too, because moisture's a sneaky, two-timing no good customer.

Of course, the biggest feature that the Fly Creek has is actually what it doesn't have: weight. It checks it a mere, a ridiculous, an unbelievable 1lb 6oz, more than a half-pound lighter than a quart of water, and if you're really feeling like going ultra-ultra-light, you can ditch the tent body, bringing just the hub-style DAC Featherlite pole, the footprint (sold separately), and the fly, after which your setup will weigh an astonishing 1lb 1oz, a weight that's probably less than whatever you're carrying in your pockets right this moment. Even with this silly poundage, you still get a fully-functional vestibule, a mesh pocket, and reflective guylines and webbing so you don't trip yourself up at night. Sometimes, it's all about what you don't have.

  • Ultralight design with all-mesh body
  • DAC Featherlite hub pole system
  • One door and vestibule
  • Fully-taped seams and storm flap
  • Mesh pocket
  • Reflective guylines and webbing
  • Gear loft and footprint sold separately

Best Back Packing Tent EVER!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used this tent during a 10 day bike-packing trip across the Colorado Trail (550 miles). It was the lightest setup I've ever used. The ease at which it was set up blew my mind and made establishing camp each night a breeze. The materials protected us from some brutal storms above tree line and held up against some pretty hard use with no footprint. The construction and design made for a comfy sleep for two people despot the compact nature of the layout.

This is a phenominal tent! Featherweight, easily set up and torn down, beyond pack able, and yet strong enough for the trail.

Best Back Packing Tent EVER!!

What is the difference between Packaged Weight, Trail Weight and Fast Pitch Weight (Fast Fly Weight as Big Agnes calls it).

Also what does the footprint weigh?

Responded on

Here is how Big Agnes defines the different weights for their tents:

Packed weight:
This is the heaviest you can expect your tent to weigh, straight out of the box or from the store. This weight refers to all packaging, hang tags, as well as the stuff sacks, fly, body, stakes, poles, and guy lines.

Trail weight:
This is the lightest you can expect your tent to weigh, stripped of everything but the essentials. This number reflects the weight of just the fly (no guy lines), body, and poles.

Fast-fly weight:
This is the weight of your fly, footprint and poleset only.

Fly Creek Platinum 1 info:

Packed Weight - 1lb 13 oz (29 oz) or 822grams
Trail Weight - 1lb 6 oz (22 oz) or 624grams
Fast Fly Weight - 1lb 1 oz (17oz) or 482grams
Footprint Weight - 4oz or 113grams
