    Motivation for hibernation.

Packing a bag of wine might not be the best way to go ultralight, but knowing a belly full of grown-up grape juice and a warm night's sleep in the Big Agnes Encampment25-Degree Synthetic Sleeping Bag is right around the corner will keep you going during a long day on the trail. Well-rounded, versatile, and at a price that won't ding your wine budget, the Encampment is a solid first bag for someone just building up their gear pile and will please the hardened backcountry veteran looking to add a synthetic bag to their quiver for those likely-soggy adventures.

The Encampent has a 15-degree temperature rating, making it well-equipped to deal with mid-summer alpine temps and shoulder season backpacking trips when temperatures can easily duck below freezing. The bag's Hotstream synthetic insulation is composed almost entirely of recycled materials and will maintain insulating properties if the bag happens to get wet, so a sudden shower or tent-wall condensation won't have you waking up shivering. Throw any 20in-wide rectangular sleeping pad in the full-length pad retainer to keep yourself off the ground during your nighttime tossing and turning, and let your toes wiggle happily around in the spacious vaulted foot box after a long day of being crammed in stiff hiking boots.

    Super Comfy!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I live in Florida and when it hits 30 with the humidity it feels 10 below anywhere else. The first few times using this bag slept with it more like a comforter unzipped and open. Bag is very soft with easy to use zippers that rarely catch. The one night I have got to really test it we hit 25 degrees. I am a mediumly warm sleeper and was wearing gym shorts, light socks, a long sleeve long underwear top and a beenie. Did good till about 4 in the morning when my feet got cool. Will wear thicker socks and long underwear bottoms next time and that should do it. So yes it stays warm! I use it with an insulated q-core pad and no cold seeps through from underneath, which was a worry. Very happy with this purchase!

    Nice bag

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought the long/wide version for my girlfriend to extend our camping season. She already had a long/wide pad (that feels like a bed) and enjoys the extra room in her 40 degree Buffalo Park bag, so this looked like a great addition to our gear. The Encampment doesn't have quite as much room as the Park series and only has one zipper, but it doesn't weigh as much and still has plenty of wiggle room. Looking forward to more camping trips next year, and hopefully some backpacking too.

    Great bag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my 4th purchase of a Big Agnes Encampment. (My husband and I bought ours, and now the kids think that they need one also.) I love the fact that the Big Agnes sleeping pad and bag are designed to work together. You don’t slip off your pad at night, even if you roll around in your sleep. The bag is well designed with baffles that keep the cold out at the neck and along the zip. I have used this bag alone for Winter Camping when night time temperatures were around freezing and with a liner when temperatures were closer to Zero at night. It has always kept me warm. It stuffs down nicely and I love the storage sack that comes with the bag to help the bag keep its loft.

    great bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just used this on a recent trip to Yosemite. Definitely a warm bag, it was probably in the 30's at night. For a synthetic bag it packed reasonably small and the hood and bib keep the cold out. I like it.
