Crater Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down w/ Mummy Pad

Getting the right sleeping bag for a fall backpacking trip can be tricky—a 40-degree bag doesn't provide enough insulation, while a 0-degree bag can be overkill. With a 15-degree Big Agnes Crater Down Mummy Bag and a Hinman Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad, we're hooking you up the ultimate sleeping system for your autumn adventures. Big Agnes stuffed the Crater Sleeping Bag with 17-ounces of 600-fill goose down and engineered it to lock out drafts, so you stay toasty warm in the brisk air. The Crater does not have any insulation on the underside, but features a sleeve for the included Hinman Mummy Pad. This integrated system prevents you from rolling off your mat as you sleep and cuts down weight. It also cuts down space in you pack since you can leave the Hinman pad in the Crater's sleeve, roll them up together, and stuff it all into the included sack.

Bottom Line: A great setup if you do a lot of backpacking in the shoulder seasons or you're a cold sleeper even in summer.

Hello, My boyfriend and I are taking our first trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, CO this July. Will this sleeping bag be overkill in CO's summer heat?

Probably. If you leave it zipped open you should manage, but it's still pretty warm for the conditions.

Not just warm, HOT!

Took it out last weekend in the mid-40s and didn't even zip it, too hot. Foot box is a lil' cramped. Zipper snags, esp if the pad is a bit escew to the zipper side. Can't stuff it in sack with Hinman pad, but works great w/ an Air Core pad. Pillow pocket and sleeve work great.

The specs show the "Temp Rating" as -5F. Is that a misprint? I assumed because it is dubbed "15 Degree Down" that the temp rating would be 15F.I tend to be cold, when not moving, due to low heart rate and blood pressure. I currently have a 20F rated (Slumberjack) synthetic fill bag that I froze my rear off in when only 32F. I was very disappointed. I don't want to spend this much and freeze my behind again.I have looked around and for the money/weight ratio, this bag seems promising. The design seems to make sense, and with the minimal weight, I plan to include a closed cell pad (7oz.) with it. All would be lighter than my current bag assuming the combination of the included pad and bag weight of 2lbs. 2oz. is correct. Thanks!

the -5F is for the sleeping PAD, i'm assuming that it means how cold it can get before you can feel the cold coming through the pad from the ground.

Killer Sack!

Bought these for my wife and myself. These are the best designed bags ever! There is plenty of room to move around. These things will be plenty warm to do a little 4 season camping. Plus, the design for the pad is the best! To have a pad that moves with you instead of separate and allows you to keep sliding off..... for me it makes complete sense!

You pick what you want in the pulldown menu when you add it to your cart.If you're trying to decide which zip to get, go with the opposite of your dominant hand. That way you reach across your body to unzip instead of awkwardly grabbing the zipper beside the same shoulder.

The zippers don't go all the way down the side, so you won't be able to zip them together. Sorry.
