Description

The four-season, do-it-all armor for your dome.

Protect your head all winter with the Bern Watts Hard Hat Helmet; when summer rolls around, pop out the knit liner and shred the skate park or dirt pump track comfortably. Skiing, snowboarding, skating or biking, the Brock foam inside helps to protect your head from multiple, lower-level impacts rather than one huge, catastrophic hit. For everyone who lives in a state where the sun scorches your eyeballs 350 days a year, Bern added a mini-brim to shield your peepers.
  • Hard Hat version with Brock Foam is not EN/AST/CPSC certified for severe single impacts, but it is able to withstand multiple, lighter hits without requiring replacement (as compared to Zipmold and EPS foam, which is certified but must be replaced after a single hit, however hard or soft)
  • Removable knit liner allows for year-round action sport use—leave it in to fight off the winter chill and take it out when the weather warms up

Love it.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've got a big ol head, and the L/XL fits it great. I looked at both this and the Pro-tec Riot Boa Helmet. They both fit great, but i chose the bern because of the liner. It's soft but stiff around the back and on the ear flaps and the top is a jersey type material. It's never very cold here so it keeps the air flowing, especially after the hike up. For bike rides on warmer days the liner pops out to keep it cool. Its super easy to get out and in. It lines up real nice with my Smith I/O goggles, and i had to adjust the goggle strap pretty lopsided so that the clip on the back of the helmet fit over the clip on the goggle strap. The neon green is an awesome color, and goes real well with the BC goat sticker. Super rad helmet. I love it.

Okay folks, important question. I have a big gourd. This means most helmets (giro & smith) look enormous. How does this helmet look in L/XL. I specifically hate how my goggle strap extends outward around the helmet rather than straight back.

Help a huge headed bro out!! Thanks!

Best Answer Responded on

My noggin's pretty big, and i've got the L/XL in Neon Green. It fits well- no room for a hat under it- and looks rad. I've got smith I/O Goggles that fit great. The clip on the back can be flipped up if you like it to ride higher, but it comes in the down position so that the strap goes straight back from the sides of the goggles. I'd say go for it. Good Luck.

Sweet and supple

I love this helmet. It fits my head very snug, doesn't move around when I do, looks good, and is warm. It works well with my Smith I/O goggles as well.

Viva la Watts!

Anyone know how the curve of the brim lines up with Oakley Crowbars?

Hey Ryan.
I own both Oakley Crowbars and the Bern Watts Hard Hat - they line up pretty good man.

I use electric EG2 goggles. Will they fit with this helmet or not

Responded on

Hey,

I love the EG2's but honestly as high profile as those goggles are you might want to consider a helmet without a visor. I have seen people pull off the EG2's with helmets with a visor but it is so flush that I can only imagine it getting pretty annoying. Maybe check out the Bern Macon instead:

This helmet is AWESOME!

This helmet runs small. I usually wear a small but this model/brand I wear a medium.

Solid Dome Piece

First one kept me safe and sound through many bonks and bumps on the skis and longboard, as well as a tremendous bike crash. Number two will surely do the same. Comfortable and stylee. Bern has my whole family protected.

Great Helmet!

This is a great helmet. Sizing chart is accurate and it fits very well. Very light. Will say though that the neon green picture advertised is not the same as what you get. The helmet is actually much darker. But with dogfunk's great return policy, it wasn't a big deal.

Is the neon green a matte or glossy finish?

Its matte. It is a few shades darker than pictured, but still definitely a bright green. Rad lid

has saved my life

i've taken some hard falls with this helmet on and it's not as bad as with my old RED helmet. did get a gnarly concussion but that can't be helped by any helmet. i enjoy the low profile and new padding system bern has got going. buy this helmet!

Awesome Bucket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I don't know if there is a better helmet out there... Maybe. But I didn't find it. I tried varoious other brands and even different models of bern and this bad boy was the right decision.

Venting to keep you cool, or an internal vent cover to keep you warm. Light, 'fairly' low profile, attractive, stylish, useful brim, I could go on.

With terrible brokerage on my shipping to Canada I should have looked harder for a local supply, but the quick shipping and awesome product make up for it. Money beats hassle sometimes. If you're us local - just buy it.

Fit is similar to my protech bmx helmet. Large is large. I can only assume the rest fit similar. Speaking of Fit, this bucket is comfy. Similar to smith but better than other bern - IMO.

Great Helmet...Looks even better!

After a couple runs, I didn't even realize I had it on...Super light! I took the vent cover out right away...It does get a little warm. My 1st helmet, so don't know what to compare it to, but I like it & very happy.

Great Helmet

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this helmet several times skiing this year and has not let me down yet. The removable knit liner is very warm, I had to remove it when the temp was about 30 because it was getting to hot. I am an advanced skier and this helmets adds that extra protection needed one the dangerous slopes and on the back-country trails. I would recommend this helmet to everyone.

Other thoughts
There are several places to mount a camera to this helmet. I have a GoPro2 and this helmet carries the weight well and doesn't move around while skiing.

The vent holes at the top of the helmet (great for summer use and bike riding) prevent any logos to go on that area limiting the amount of signage on the helmet. However I did manage to find room for my backcountry sticker :).

Love this helmet!

I love this helmet! I have a ton of hair and it can make sizing a helmet tricky. I got this and it fits my head with out being huge and gapey everywhere else. I originally had the audio version but it shortly out after a few ski trips. I went with this one and love it!

This helmet is incredibly classy. My steeze was maximized in seconds! Holy Nutballs! It's freakin' fabulous. Soft, warm, classy. Also classy. Jesus, it's classier than James Bond.

Sick Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

this is a pretty nice piece, it looks good and fits well. Its got a quality warm liner for skiing that covers your ears and lower portions of your head. it also has a foam disk that fits inside to minimize heat loss through the vents (just dont loose it between winters). Without the warm stuff the helmet still fits like it should, its just super cozy with the warm stuff in! keep in mind that if your buying the Hard Hat rather than the helmet, that you might be a little surprised by how flexible the outer plastic is. its still real sturdy and I've been protected through multiple quality hits, but it not like wearing a Nalgene bottle on your head.this also means that you'll have some gnarly battle scratches after some of the more abrasive hits (easy and cool fix: PUT A GOAT ON IT! or any sticker). All in all its a badass helmet thats gunna prevent you from talking like mike tyson when your 60.

does it have a goggle clip??

it comes with a clip that can be mounted in a high or low position depending on your fit.
