Powder Tree Run with My HERO3 Black!

Posted on

This was filmed at The Canyons Resort in Park City, UT with the HERO3 Black Edition camera at 1080p at 60fps mounted on my GoScope.

Jeff, how does the flat design of the new lens case lead to build up of snow on the lens from powder spray, etc.? Thats one thing I liked about the Hero, the dome shape of the lens case made it easy for snow that hit it bounce right off, and this is a concern of mine.

The flat lens does hold beads of water and wet streaks a little more than the HERO2 and is a little harder to clear off, but it really isn't that bad. I haven't really had any issues with the lens yet. It also looks like there isn't such a harsh warp around the edges of the screen for the 170degree lens which is a bonus for me! I have noticed the battery life is a little less on the 3. But over all I'm loving my 3 and you can also buy a lens cap that protects the lens and the power button from accidentally being pushed. Both camera's have their pro's and con's. Once GoPro comes out with a fix for their firmware and fixes some bugs the HERO3 will definitely be the best!

I've got the same question, I want to get one for rafting, so it'll be getting soaked, is the flat lens an issue?

Lauren, I haven't got to try it yet on the water (I also use my GoPro for Rafting, Kayaking, and Canyoneering). The lens comes with a water repellent coating but that does eventually wear off. With my HERO2 I usually put some Rain-Ex on the lens before taking it into the water for the day and that helped keep the droplets off the lens. I'm planning on doing this for the HERO3 too! I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you re-apply the Rain-Ex before you take it in the water. I'll have to make a video dunking my HERO3 in the sink so you can see what to expect.

Jeff, I like your sound track choice. What's the title? Thx!
