You mention spring ski - will they hold up to the pow-pow at Snowbird in April? I use a feature-free thin Gortex soft shell over base insulators and I am looking for a nice pant that will be warm enough for spring skiing sans the bulk of a ski pant and double as something I can hike the Fourteeners in after the melt is on.

You might want to go with an M1 pant from marmot. These aren't going to be extremely warm for your purposes. You could get away with a VERY warm baselayer (we're talking a heavy-weight one) with the shell over base insulation. I'd be careful on sizing with these too because they're going to be a tight fit with 2 layers under you for sure.

As for the snow shedding capability, these can take it, but you'll be drier with an M1.
