Gear Review

very functional and a good value

I hiked in a pair of these for a couple years, and wore a pair of these for one my dayhikes of Whitney (a July trip) and they were perfect. My pack was close to 16 lbs., and they provided plenty of support. I agree with other reviewers, that the addition of the Superfeet insoles will definitely increase your support (and rock resistance on a granite trail like the MMWT), but will also reduce the soft feel (and trail feel) of the Merrell insoles, so your call on that.

And while they aren't waterproof, they do drain quickly and ventilation is outstanding; they make a great hot-weather hiker. No break-in period needed for these, and the sizing was consistent with every other shoe I wear.

I have gone over to wearing trail runners, but these are very functional and a good value at this price point.
