- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
Ok its rare I write reviews but this shoe compels me to jot a few words. I run alot and exclusively it is on dirt and rock trails steep up hills and down. For the last year or so I have been using the Salomon speed cross which I found to be a great shoe, however I am a heavy heel striker esp the outside heel due to my bow legs and hence I was finding that the speed cross was, with is knob design for traction, wearing out very quickly. I have been out on around 15 runs now with the La Sportiva Quantum Trails shoe and find the shoe has no perceivable wear on the outside heel section. The foot is held snugly and yet the laces dont feel like they need to be very tight across the mid foot area to hold the foot. The cushioning Im finding is quite amazing as I feel very little of the rocks and debris I run over and the sole seems to create a very stable running platform. So far I have noticed no slipping on the dust and dirt that I run through. I cant say what they are like in wet mud conditions but for the conditions I tend to run in they provide great grip so far. Size wise I read a review that said that you should go a half size bigger....I would have to agree with this. I am normally a 45 in pretty much everything. However the first pair I purchased I found after the first run that wearing socks made them too tight and I got a slightly blacked 3rd toe. Since then I have been running in them barefoot and they are snug and firm. The second set I purchased I got a 45.5 and these fit perfect with socks.
