First things first. I am not sure if the boots run a little large or not. If they do it is by about half a size. I am kind of a tweener and so depending on the company either take a 7.5 or 8. I chose incorrectly in this case. With that said I am unsure if having the correct size would make these boots fit perfectly or not. As they are they work well for even terrain hiking/walking and siting/standing around outside in the cold. This is another reason why the boots are not getting as high of a rating. I knew I was going to be working outside in them through the winter/spring in the desert of Idaho so wanted something warm (my extremities get cold very very easily). Rated to -40 sounded right up my ally and then I would be able to use it during the winters in the Canadian prairies. The boots do keep my feet toasty standing and sitting outside until the temps start dropping below freezing. I would say that my feet don't really start getting cold and uncomfortable until the temp is at about 28F. I think I would be more in love with these boots if they had one more sets of "eyelets" so that I could cinch it down better and they actually kept my feet warm down to 25F. Otherwise the boots are snow and bird poop proof and the tongue that comes all the way up is great for keeping stuff out of the boot. Would love to give it a 4 but just can't as I can't wear the boots for any extensive off trail/uneven terrain hikes.
