surprisingly great

My partner and I love this tent. We were researching backpacking tents for a month or so and had settled on MSR's Hubba Hubba, but just before we ordered it, one of our parents bought us the Salida without knowing that we were looking at higher end, double doored tents. We decided to try out the Salida anyway and after about a month of use, we realized that it did everything we needed it to do.

We've used this for about half a year now and done multiday hikes with it in NH, NC, and WY, where we've had serious wind, rain and snow, and we've had hardly any problems. We even lived out of it for a month while WWOOFing in the Sierra Nevadas.

I'm 6'2" and I have a few inches left at my feet in this. I'm actually really relieved that I didn't go for the Hubba Hubba because it would've been too short. The pockets and gearloft, though just a stupid little extra touch, have turned out to be awesome and they definitely save us room. The tent breathes really well with the mesh, although after a three day storm in CA where we couldn't open the fly for more than a few seconds, we noticed some condensation in the mornings.

The single door can be a pain, but the two of us love hiking together and we're pretty good at climbing over each other and dealing with it. And although there's only one small vestibule, we've still had enough room for the two of our packs.

I think the biggest flaw in this tent would be the lack of guy-out loops on the side of the fly. Even though we've been dry without guying out the sides, we still sometimes bring two clothes pins tied to rope and get the sides nice and taut (which also adds some ventilation).
