I bought 2 of these locks because I'm backpacking for 3 months around Asia and Europe. I couldn't figure out a way to lock the top of my top-loading drawstring pack. Rather than get one of those ridiculous looking but secure wire netting things, I got this kind of lock and thread it through the opening next to the cord every time I want to lock the bag. Then retract the lock, lock it, and it's secure! It's been very easy and reassuring to have my stuff locked up. It is NOT TSA-compliant, but I put it on my bag when going on flights (8 so far) and it's not been cut off yet. That is why I bought two of them though, just in case. In the meantime, the extra one is great at locking all my bags together, locking a bag to a picnic bench, etc. I'll definitely use them for skiing next winter.
