great for other sports
I like the PhDs for running and tossed my old Thorlos in favor of them, so I asked Backcountry for some recommendations for tennis and/or soccer-worthy wool socks so I could toss my old socks for that too. They recommended these and a pair of Darn Tough hikers (also good but I prefer the padding on the Smartwools). Like the PhDs, these wick sweat much better than the Thorlos or any other non-wool socks I've tried, but unlike the PhDs, they're also thick enough to provide support and prevent blistering. The pile barely compresses: after two hours on court in roasting heat, they're almost as thick and comfortable as when I started. Performed equally well in soccer cleats. Not cheap, but neither are Thorlos or any good dedicated tennis or soccer socks. It's a joke given the size of the tennis and soccer markets that running/outdoor socks (and gear generally, esp. shoes, tech and compression clothes, sunglasses, hell, everything) are still so superior to tennis/soccer gear, but there it is.
