Works ok, but could be better

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this mainly to use as a face covering for skiing, and it works pretty well for mild weather. The main problem I have with it in this capacity is that it stretches out and loses its shape fairly quickly, and then it won't stay on my face. The other issue is that in really cold weather, the moisture in the wool freezes solid, at which point it's useless as a facemask. So, bottom line, this buff is good when the weather is mild, but doesn't quite do the trick when it gets really cold. I'll probably still use it for the many other uses, but I'm looking elsewhere for a cold-weather facemask.

Tobin, I'm surprised you have gotten it cold enough to freeze. I wore it as a windscreen for a Winter Mt. Washington ascent in -40F and it worked great. I have noted the tendency for it to lose shape after a while. I get around this by doubling the fabric up...Onward and upward.
