What's the point of this shoe?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

FIrst let me say I love most La Sportiva shoes. Just not this one. I don't get the point of this shoe. First the good: It looks cool and feels super comfortable - almost like a tight slipper. And is nice on flat, smooth terrain.
Now the bad: It has NO traction. This is true of anything wet, including both rocks and wood. And in mud its horrible. If you are climbing a steep trail with loose dirt - forget it. Also, the sole material is so soft, I feel every pebble which makes this a very unpractical shoe for me on technical terrain. Basically everything the promotional material say this shoe was made for I find totally the opposite. What gives? Everything else La Sportiva makes is awesome!

So if you want a very comfortable shoe for running smooth flat surfaces that looks cool, this is the shoe for you. Otherwise look at Raptor or Wildcat if you want something for really technical terrain and like a bit more beef, or the Helios, which in my book is awesome for almost all terrain once you get used to them. The vertical K is a lot lighter and still a much better overall shoe. I'm not shoe expert and don't care to understand all the geeky details, but I've worn out lots of shoes and spent lots of time moving on my feet and I simply found the quantum a real disappointment and an unpractical shoe.
