I drove into the garage with a highback up on a snowboard. This rack hung on and was only slightly kinked - I fully expected to see it broken off but was very pleased to see that it is actually quite strong. So, I would say that if you don't do foolish things like try to rip it off with your garage door, yours will last approximately forever.
