Used a friend's M-2D during 50-mile backpack trip after I lost my Suunto M-3DL. This compass is light (1.2 oz) and, best of all, it has an adjustable declination. I simply can't keep the "add (subtract?)-declination-to-the-map-reading-vs.-subtract (add?)-declination-to-the-compass-bearing-thing" straight in my head. Before trip I check current magnetic declination at NOAA then I set it and forget it!
Compass can also be used to measure interesting tracks in the snow!
