Satisfied... Not thrilled.

I used these extensively over the past summer and fall. The description suggests these are great for hiking a sun drenched canyon or hitting some red rock on a mountain bike... and they are. However, unlike other hiking shoes out there, these are not what I'd consider a good "all around" hiking shoe. My last pair of hiking shoes could go anywhere, do anything, and left my feet feeling like a million bucks. The Ventilators excel at ventilation (not surprisingly) but I would only give them a 5 out of 10 for comfort. This shoe is fine on an ascent, but these shoes always seem to leave my feet yearning for more underfoot support and shock absorption on the way down. The advertised air-cushion midsole is just not an adequate shock absorber for this level of shoe, even on gradual declines. I have already decided to retire them from hiking service, and use them for my casual wear shoe instead.

For more support, upgrade the cheap foam insoles with Superfeet or other performance footbed. Then the comfort will be around 11.

I agree with James. I put 15 to 25 miles a week on these and have great comfort. I use SuperFeet Orange inserts. They are an improvement over the Sole orthotics I had previously used.
