Pretty Dang Cool

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If I were a dog, I would be stoked on these! I picked up a pair for our 11mo old newf, and I'm positive that there is nothing else out there that would work any better.
I originally got these because our pup has these 'furry feathers' on the bottom of her paws, which means that she gets ice balls in her pads way too easily. With these booties, not only does she not build up the ice balls, but she also gets pretty good traction too! The only issue with them in the snow was when she was running at full speed, and they would either flip upside down or fly off. This could have also been due to the fact that she has gigantic paws and skinny ankles, so they were harder to crank down super tight...
The first time out on snow, they did work VERY well, and she didn't mind them at all. I'll definitely be using them more often out on hikes as well as around the house (as she has troubles getting up on slippery floors and the grip on these is perfect to help fix that).
When you first put them on, I recommend immediately distracting them- treats, toys, a walk- that way they'll associate the booties with good things. Also, measure your dogs paws exactly as Ruffwear instructs, or else you're going to end up with boots that don't fit correctly- and that is no fun.
Overall, these are a great purchase for anyone looking to help protect their pooches paws!

I am back to say how much I absolutely LOVE these booties- they are essential in all of our trips/outings now. We went out on a camping trip recently, and our pooch had rubbed her pads raw from running on asphalt prior to the trip. As soon as we put on her boots, she was totally fine- they protected her already sore paws, and kept burrs and pine needles out too. She ran around the mountains for a couple of days, and these things are not in the least worn out at all. These are a must-have for any outdoorsy dog!
