Not Just for the Rain
Sure, this provides excellent rain protection - better than any other I've used. Here in Colorado, where we don't get a ton of rain, I still use it as my primary sun hat on most hikes and campouts.
As long as it's not 95+, I feel that it provides great sun protection - and I know I'll always be good if an afternoon storm rolls through.
I really enjoy the hat is that it's great for wearing around the campsite at night when things cool down, but aren't cold enough to put on my beanie. The fleece inner lining is a great insulator.
The final reason it's my go-to hat is that it's pretty bombproof. I can sit on it, crumple it up, stick it in/on my pack, and it continues to look great.
