Gear Review

Great compact pack for rock and summit climbs

This pack was an excellent upgrade for me. For the past 20 years I've been (happily) using a simple and rugged MEC pack for hauling my climbing gear to the crag. This BD Demon pack holds slightly more but feels like I'm carrying about 1/3rd less weight! (I usually carry about 30 lbs of gear). This pack's design is extremely well thought out - easy access, great design for strapping on a rope, simple streamline shape, durable fabric, great suspension, great size for day use. I just hope it lasts me another 20 years.....I don't see why it won't.

Responded on

Update; I've used this now regularly and frequently (several times a week) for the past few months and it is holding up okay, there are already a few small holes in the bottom from rough rock (double bottom would be nice...), also the inside map (?) pocket/slot along the front is kind of useless and just too often gets in the way when loading odd shaped gear. But otherwise the suspension (really important part) looks like new.

Comfort and function-wise it is A+ great. I regularly carry 30+ for up to several hours, and have carried up to 50 lbs for more than an hour comfortably, as well as a more regular day-pack load on a technical alpine route for 15 hrs... Overall a delightful pack!
