I just returned from a 3 week Grand Canyon river trip and I purchased these shoes specifically for the trip. I had hesitations about buying another pair of Keens because my last pair were slippery than snot on wet rocks and the toes tended to fill with sand, making an uncomfortable hike.
I will say I was far more impressed with this shoe. They are wider and I had to accomodate for the size, but the toe box gave me plenty of room and they are very comfortable to wear with or without water socks. The tread held up to daily hikes and rock scrambles both in wet and dry environments. They had much better grip on wet surfaces than my last pair. That was a big plus! Only very fine sand was able to get through the mesh and build up in the toe area. They also dry quickly! I hiked and climbed in them and they handled very well. Overall, this is a good multi-use river shoe for on the boat, around camp, and for day hikes!
