Gear Review

Does the job but ...

For the money, the Precip does the job but it's the kind of jacket you keep in your trunk as an emergency piece or in a golf bag or in your boat etc. You get the picture. Yes it will keep you relatively dry from the elements but you're going to be soaked from the condensation. It doesn't breath very well. Bottom line is if you want rain gear that will work during any kind of physical activity ... spend the money and get Gortex or perhaps some of the higher end DWR finishes offered by top brands like Marmot, Mountain Hardware, The North Face ETC. You get what you pay for when it comes to rain gear.

Have you tried learning to use pit zips? They are a marvelous invention and work well when you know how to use them. It is always a balance between breathing and keeping the rain/snow out but they are effective once you get the hang of it. NOTHING will ever be totally breathable while being waterproof/windproof. Use the pit zips; thats what they are for.
