I use a Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket for touring in storms, they work great!! It would work as a shell for skiing lift service in but I bought it as a very tight. A M fit me tight with 2 light layers on and a bacon. I'm 5'11", 170 lbs. A L would be good to put a little more layering under.
So it runs a little smaller than say Arc'teryx sizes do. Pit-Zips are nice, works well as a base layer for skinning then a hard shell over the top when coming down on really nasty days! Good spring jacket with little layers on warm days. L would work for all around with more layers on cooler, winter days!
Last guy in line (me) has this jacket on in an older color.
