what do you guys have against short people? in other words, why do i have to spend my money elsewhere to get a pair of 30" inseam pants? kind of a bummer...

Blame Carhartt. Also, hemming a pant leg is not the toughest thing to do, and it's really cheap. If these are the pants you really, really want and you really, really want to support backcountry, consider trying it out.
