how does the aura 2 hold up in wet snow and heavy wind? Are there better tents for these conditions?
This tent is not made for wet snow or heavy wind. It is relatively stable when fully guyed out, but the wind easily flows through the mesh, and the shape would not shed snow easily.
Check out the Black Diamond Ahwahnee for a versatile, stormproof tent with similar features and dimensions but added weight, or the Black Diamond Eldorado for similar weight but stripped features.
I've pitched the Aura in some pretty strong winds up on San Gorgonio where we experienced gusts of 50+ mph. The tent survived, but my confidence was lacking at times as the poles collapsed a time or two. I've never used all the guylines, which would definitely increase stability big time.
Update to my answer above - I've used this tent in some light, wet snow in the Sierras. The fly doesn't shed snow well and the fly sags dramatically.
