The Salomon Quests aren't insulated so they won't be as warm a mountaineering boot or snow boot. The Gore-Tex liner at the very least will keep you dry, although not necessarily warm. Paired with thick socks they do great for snowy hikes, I guess it just depends how extreme you might get, they're not crampon compatible (no welts, no full shank). I've found the soles to do great in mud, I wouldn't suspect snow to pose any problem. I throw my pair in the trunk during the winter in case and figure if I got stuck in bad weather or need to push the car in terrible weather I'll have sturdy, waterproof boots.
