What do you mean by the big heel throw is better for hiking?

Responded on

I meant climbing wire, sorry. When you're going uphill, your toe will be significantly higher than your heel. If you don't have a climbing wire, then your calves have to take the weight and you're essentially standing on your tiptoes the whole time, so your calves will get really tired. The climbing wire (the big square wire) comes up from the heel of your binding and supports the heel of your foot, equalizing the height so you can rest on your heels instead of your toes. The steeper the slope, the bigger the wire you want.
