I've been told that the Big Agnes Pump House is a necessary piece of equipment for inflating this pad. I'm wondering if anyone here has this pad but not the Pump House? Or just general comments on inflation time/difficulties, etc. Thanks.

No pump house needed. You can just blow it up using your own breath. It does take a few minutes. I would say a pump or the pumphouse would speed this up dramatically. Blowing up two of these for me and my girlfriend definitely leaves me a bit winded :-) but its not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, considering you get th best night of sleep ever on this thing. Super warm and no bottoming out even on your side.

Thanks! Any idea how it would compare to blowing up a standard full-length Therm-a-Rest? From the specs it looks about twice as tall as my Therm-a-Rest, but I think part of that's due to the insulated aspect of it.

Laura,

It is considerably more difficult to inflate than the standard Therm-a-Rest. I personally do not own the pump that comes with this pad, but I could see how it would be helpful. If you are trying to inflate this at high elevation it is a chore, and honestly it is a chore even at low elevation. All that to say, it is well worth it. I purchased this pad after using Therm-a-Rest for years, and I will never look back again. Good luck!

Man, I love my inflatable Big Agnes pad and inflation is no big deal. Never go back.

For a regular pad I have counted how many breaths it takes to blow it up. It usually takes between 25 and 30 so it is a bit of a chore, but you have to weigh the options do you want to blow it up the harder way and save weight or do you want to blow it up the easy way and carry a little more weight.

GET a pump house! i use this thing almost every weekend, and after a long day hiking/climbing ect. who wants to blow up an air mattress that has a 3" loft. takes 10-15 minutes and mild light headedness! pick one up and save your lungs for singing! :)
