Gear Question

Is the carbon shock absorber plate really...

Is the carbon shock absorber plate really necessary? It seems overkill to me. Can I use these bindings without the plate? DIN 12 and brakes are appealing but the plate is not, so I am considering going with a speed radical or radical ST instead.

Thanks

You can't use the FT with out the plate. It is integral with the brake/heel piece. The carbon plate does add some torsional rigidity, particularly when mounted on wider (>100mm waist) skis. The difference isn't huge, but it helps and is only 68 grams heavier than the ST. If you don't need the 12 DIN, go with the ST.
