I am an east coast expert skier skiing on Volkl AC3 skis (orange - approx. 5/6 years old) and was thinking of purchasing RTM 80 skis. Do you think I will notice much of a difference in ski performance with the RTM 80's? If so, in what areas?
The RTM 80s is a rocker, which has some clear advantages in crude, powder, off-piste etc. However, I found them to be quite a bit different from the full camber of the ACs of the past. As an east coast skier who would typically by on the front side, you might be, like me, disappointed by the lack of rebound of the rocker. Looking to make a similar upgrade and after trying a number rockers and all-mountain 2012 skies Ive chosen the more traditional full camber as I love the snap.
I tried a pair out at Sunday River yesterday. It took a couple of runs to find the sweet spot. They really hold an edge in hard , firm snow. Skied White Heat, Right Stuff, Vortex and other trails. I was doing fairly fast runs and was impressed with them. That being said, I'm not sure how they would handle crud or soft snow conditions. A good Eastern frontside ski. I'm 57 and am an advanced /expert skier.
