Hello...I was wondering the difference between this patagonia DAS parka and the arcteryx kappa jacket are? Which is warmer, more compressable, durable? Which do you prefer? Going to use as an over jacket for winter camping or stand alone when really cold...THANKS!
The DAS is definitely a great jacket, super warm while still being very compressible and packable . A more similar jacket to the kappa, and maybe a better jacket for you would be the new Patagonia Apastron. It's got 200 grams of Primaloft, and a Gore Windstopper shell so it will be the warmest option of all. Super durable as well!
I tried on the Apastron before the DAS. You have to size up on it. It has a very trim cut in the body but long in the arms. It also lacks a two way zipper. But all the other features are great. One thing to note is that the DAS parka has Primaloft insulation. The Apastron has a different type of Primaloft (Eco). I don't know how it compares in warmth. But I think the windstopper shell will be more durable. I plan on using my DAS with a shell when expecting abuse.
