Finally found the coat I was looking for

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS

Ever since we had snowpocolypse 2017 here in Oregon I have been on the search for thee perfect down coat. As someone who is a mere 5'1 and 100lbs, however, this meant trying on, purchasing, and returning several coats because they always ended up too big. I initially tried the North Face Gotham coat, but it was huge!! It was also tapered in the waist, so much so that it looked like I was wearing a down dress. The most recent coat I had tried was the Marmot Montreal which was ridiculously overpriced, in my opinion. With that being said, the fit was still just slightly too large and it was a little too pillowy for my taste. My son said I looked like the Stay Puft marshmallow man; I immediately returned it after that comment, because I had the sudden realization that he was right! So that brings me to this Basin & Range coat. This is the first time I had purchased this brand so I was a little hesitant. I also wasn't sure about the smoke color but I wanted to stray away from black, simply because my entire wardrobe is black. Well, I'm super glad I chose the smoke color because it's super cute. I would describe it as being grey with a purplish tint to it. The fit is awesome!! I tried it over a thin top, so I would imagine it would fit a little tighter with a sweater or bulkier top underneath which should still work perfectly. Length wise, it hits a few inches above my knees. My favorite part about the coat are the zippers; I love the contrast of the bright silver hardware on the coat material. This coat feels cozy while managing to avoid making me look like the Michelan man, or as my son would say, the Stay Puft Marshmallow man. I don't write reviews often, but when I find an item I love, I feel like it's necessary. If ur a petite person like myself searching for the perfect fitting coat, this is it.
As an additional reference, I am a size 24 waist , 32A chest and bought the XS.

    Amazing style and warmth

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just loooove this coat. Terrific quality and super warm. It fits like a glove and doesn't overwhelm my petite frame. I get compliments every time I wear it. Can't beat the price!

    Puffer Heaven

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small

Have you ever wanted to wear a sleeping bag around because it's so cold out but didn't want to look absurd? Well, I found the coat for you. The Promontory down parka is amazingly cozy, stylish, and WARM. I've been wearing it non-stop this January as my commute jacket here in Salt Lake and have worn it for a few day outings in the mountains and Park City for Sundance Film Fest. It didn't get soaked in the heavy snow coming down. One feature I really love is the dropped hem. I have another coat that is the same length all around and it gets a bit drafty. With the drop hem in this coat I haven't felt the same draft and, personally, I think if you're butt's not warm in your winter coat you're doing it wrong. The fit is flattering for a puffer jacket -- I wrote that it runs small because I have a larger chest and it is tight up top. I think for ladies with small to average chests, it would fit true to size.

    Perfect for Cold Weather Commute

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

This coat is perfect for waling to and from class in the cold of Virginia. The extra length keeps out extra drafts on the thighs. Great Color, fit and fabric.

    Stylish coat

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small

I got this and the B&R Evergreen coat. This one was more fashion forward, I liked the drop hem and shiny zippers. The fit was quite tight around my chest/rib cage, more so than the Evergreen in same brand. I'm pretty rough of jackets and was afraid I would rip the fabric as compared to the higher denier of the Evergreen. If you're looking for a more fashion jacket I'd go with this one.

    Winner winner

My wife loves this jacket! She is 5'8" and got a large and fits her great with a little room for a sweater if needed. Seems warm, we'll find out in a few months, but overall she is pumped on it... I think it was the first time she said she was excited for it to get cold so she could wear it!
