    For the simple life.

If you wanted your schedule crammed full of conference calls and seminars, you would have moved to the city and worn a suit everyday, but you'd rather wear the Basin and Range Men's Guardsmen Full-Zip Jacket and split your days between morning hikes and evenings spent casting a line to rising trout. Its stretch-polyester fabric keeps you comfortable when walking your favorite trail, hoofing it to your top secret fishing hole, or splitting rounds for the wood burning stove. The full-length front zip lets you lose a little heat when a burled piece of maple starts to give you grief. Two hand pockets give your digits a place to stay warm when you're on the trail, and the single chest pocket is good spot to stash your phone; although, we don't really blame you if you decide leave it at home.

    Real strange cut

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

This jacket has a very strange cut. Others here have commented on how long it is, totally true. I am a boxy/broad guy - the shoulders fit pretty good but my torso is like 4 inches too short to make it a good fit. Should be a better fit for someone with a lanky or wiry build.

    Runs small

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

So far I have only used this casually and here are my impressions.

This jacket runs small. Based on the reviews and size chart I bought a medium. I wear a size 40 suit and have an athletic build, but the chest, shoulders and arms are tight. When wearing a long sleeve shirt I have a little trouble putting this on, and my range of motion is slightly restricted. But the jacket does stretch when you move.

I was able to use this in a couple of quick down pours and stayed dry. And the jacket does breathe well and protects from the wind.

I do like the length of the jacket and sleeves and how the waist fits, so if I bought a size up I feel like it will be too long

    Nice Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

I've been really impressed with the versatility of this jacket. The combfortable lining makes this great for a lazy day hoody, yet its technical enough to use as a shell for spring skiing.

    Fat Bottom

    • Size Bought: XXL

I have ordered a few jackets from of Backcountry.com's various in house brands over the years and have generally liked them--I still rock the Backcountry.com welder jacket on occasion even though its beat to crap. But for the past few jackets I have always ended up returning them because I do not like like how wide the bottom is. I have really broad shoulders and usually order an XXL for that reason (this jacket is still tight on my shoulders) and accept some excessive bagginess through the stomach. However this jacket, and a few stoic jackets I have ordered have all had an excessive amount of material at the bottom giving an umbrella like effect.

    Solid Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I'll clarify and state that this review is based on only 25 minutes of use at approximately 04:15 in the morning. The location being the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest prior to a hike up Mount Timpanogos, sometimes informally referred to as Timp!

What I was able to gather is that the Basin and Range Guardsmen Full-Zip Jacket fits pretty true to size, I thought the arms / sleeves ran a tad to long though. The design and fabric used in its construction meant that I was shielded from the breeze and I could tell that had there been a light sprinkle I would have been just fine! This makes for a very solid jacket for those chilly early mornings or late night adventures under the stars!! The only down side being that this jacket isn't designed to compress or pack into a tight little spot in your pack hence the reason it was left behind in my vehicle, a thought perhaps for future design and development.

    Good All Around

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

It's a perfect layer for chillier mornings and the finish on the outside makes it nice if it starts to sprinkle on you, it has a little water resistance but it has a nice soft fleece interior which makes it really comfortable. It's a nice price for what it is and it looks nice.

Great feel and flex, poor stitching.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I loved this jacket, it was warm, breathable, flexible, and practical with the zipper pockets. The fabric doesn't wet immediately and will let light rain fall right off.

However, after only about two weeks of owning the jacket, the pocket lining began to separate from the inside of the jacket. I was sorely dissappointed and expect higher quality than this. I will be returning this jacket.

Nice material. Warm. Runs a little big

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

I got the Medium and it ran a little long. Which is ok as I'm going to use it as a spring jacket on the slopes, with other layers. But if it was something to wear everyday around town, I'd probably check out a Small.
