    Terrible Purchase

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

I've had this jacket for about a year and the amount of feathers it leaks is embarrassing. They get so embed into into sweaters, it's hard to get them out even with a lint roller.

It's shame because the fit and design of the jacket are great. But I'm really upset that I have to buy a new winter jacket after only a year of owning this. It was a Christmas gift and, for the price, my family gave it to me thinking it would last several years. I tried to make it work but I'm tried of always looking like I work in a chicken processing plant. Really regret asking for this.

    Different than expected

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this item in the black-x-dye version size M as a gift for a friend. This is her feedback:

I love this coat! I like that it's super warm without being too heavy. The zipper is very smooth and I love the cuffs around the wrist. I was surprised by a couple things though:

    1) The color. I thought it would be black, but it's more like charcoal grey. It has a super cute dark plum lining that I wasn't expecting.

    2) The length. I'm 5'5'' and I thought it'd come to about mid-thigh, but it actually comes to my knees.

I will be living in this coat all winter

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

This jacket is fantastic. First, the black option is not really black, more of a dark gray heather, but this is a nice contrast if you wear black a lot or have other black jackets! I am tall with long arms and the Small fits great - hits right above the knee, and the sleeves are plenty long. (In other words, it runs large.. if you are shorter and petite I'd probably stick with the XS.) The ribbed cuffs on the sleeves are my favourite feature -- no chilly updrafts or annoying velcro straps to adjust. I also like that the outer material is not super-thin like most down jackets. It feels durable, waterproof (or at least resistant), and less likely to rip on something. The only drawback of the jacket so far is that it sheds little bits of down which are obvious on dark clothing. I can overlook this though for how great the jacket is overall -- especially that it's a big warm down jacket that somehow maintains a nice feminine shape. As a penny-pinching thrifter, I was hesitant to spend so much on a coat, but it is well worth it on a cold day to be warm AND have a coat that doesn't make you look like a giant marshmallow.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

I just received the updated 2016 version of this jacket and I can see there are great improvements such as the zipper. It's also a little less "puffy" yet still warm. It does run large but just know that when ordering and you'll be pleased. I own a few parka length down jackets by other brands and this one is the most flattering for sure.

    Stylish & flattering

    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

The quilting on this jacket is so right! Especially for an insulated coat, the fit and style is really flattering. The cuffs & collar are nice details and the hood is nice and big. The arms aren't too puffy. Love the length.

The sizing allows for layers. The small was roomy for me with just a long sleeve underneath. Measurements 35-27-37. But not sure XS would have fit.

I'd say this is more of a commuter jacket than an outdoorsy one. You could definitely go for a winter walk in it but it wouldn't be my first choice on a trip into the mountains. It gets cold in Vermont, and I wish this was a bit warmer. One detail I dislike is that the snaps backing up the main zipper are plastic. But if you need a coat for trips to town, this one is a great pick!

    Nice warm coat!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

    PROS:
-Nice black cross-dye color - it looks pretty sophisticated for an activewear coat.
-warm despite only 550 fill. Today was windy 20F, and was perfect over nylon turtleneck and cashmere sweater.
    -zippers at top AND hem!
    -wrist cuffs nice and warm
    -good sized hood
-just enough waist shape to look less bulky.

    CONS:
-feathers leaking and appear on my clothes
-needs internal chest pockets - come on designers! You easily could've attached the bottom of the hand warmer pocket bags to the inside, to create an inside pocket! I assumed they were closed, and almost lost $ and sunglasses when I stood up on my bus.
-wish the hood was detachable, and had a faux fur trim. Not deal breakers.

Wish they added a few details

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S

This coat was really nice -- I actually liked the fit and the overall look better than the Marmot and Patagonia coats I tried. But it skimps on a few details -- pockets are small and awkward, the zipper is poor quality and there are no internal pockets. So in the end I sent it back but hope they will improve details in future coats!

    My Favorite Coat

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: M

Super warm. Flattering for my curvy figure. Great length (just above my knee). Incredibly comfortable. My only hope it that it lasts for a long time given that it's my go-to coat.

    Seemed like the perfect coat

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XS

I wanted to love this coat, however the sleeves (upper arms) were very baggy and wide. The length of the sleeves were also very long. Disappointed as it seemed to be the perfect coat otherwise. Hood does not detach.

    beautiful but too big

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: xs

It is beautiful, but the xs is too large for me.
I'm athletic and it looked way too big.
I wish they made it in an xxs.
    love the color

    So warm! But small

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

I have the non-quilted version of this coat (Skyline Down Jacket) and absolutely love it! Unfortunately the coat is sized rather small. I am usually a solid M in brands like Columbia and North Face so I ordered the M, and it is just a tad too tight :-/ Sadly, I didn't buy it from BackCountry's website so I was unable to return it and it just mostly sits in my closet now since its not comfortable. I would definitely recommend sizing up. If I had gotten the jacket in a L I think it would fit perfect, and I would wear it all the time. Great length and style. And the sleeves are actually long enough unlike a lot of other jackets. Overall it looks great, and I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't too small.

Love it! Cant' wait for winter

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    • Size Bought: small

It's a perfect fit, a great feel to the fabric, the sweater-like cuffs don't scratch my wrists, the pockets are so soft, it does not make me look like the stay-puffed man while ALSO not making me look like the femme-queen. This coat is pretty light-weight, not a super puffy puffy. I'm curious to see how it holds up in 30 degree weather or lower. I imagine I'll be wearing it every day.

    Not the best

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large

It's warm, I love the length and the color but overall the fabric is more bulky (especially in the upper arms) and less flattering than is portrayed in the images. It's not form fitting. But if you're not looking for form fitting you might love it!

    Ehhh

    • Fit: True to size

Would have loved this jacket if it didn't feel like I would break it. The zippers feel flimsy and the material isn't that durable. I thought trying to get the snaps undone I was going to rip the fabric. I bought and returned it. I bought is on sale for $99 and still didn't feel it was worth that price. For the full $249 no way! There is no inside pockets and just basically no amenities to the coat other than the draw cords on the hood. I did love the cuffs on the sleeves though!
    But overall not impressed.

    Quality garment

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: xl

Quality construction and attention to detail, looks great on, nice shaping, and the extra length helps it look streamlined. Has exceeded my expectations in every way. Will get to test it out in a couple of weeks in 0-10 degrees Celsius in Canberra, Australia, and again next year in Canada. Feels really snug and warm, goes on smoothly over other sleeves, hood fits nicely. Zip zips smoothly and colour is gorgeous, as in pictures. Bought size xl, and am AU/UK size 16-18, 176cm tall, 83kg. Would says it runs large according to the size guide, but that allows for layering underneath. I hope to be a size smaller by the time I travel next year, but fit is perfect now. Colour is darker and richer than what it appeared on my monitor, and is very versatile - a deep maroon with purple rather than red tones.

    xl

    Down leakage and small pockets.

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Raisen color, tried on with a black sweater underneath and had to pick off too much down. Tried the Skyline design also in Raisen, no problem. As with Skyline, the front pockets are too shallow, and this one is missing an inside pocket.

Decided I'm probably going to get a parka instead of puffer style for the added warmth waiting for bus in CO mountain community. But really like the styling and fit of this puffer down coat compared to others I tried.

    Unanswered Question

The tag on this jacket says there are two internal drop in pockets, but the jacket actually does not have any. I called and was told that the tag might be from an older model (?) and when I asked if I could get that one, I was told no. It seems odd that the tag isn't accurate. Is a new model of this jacket going to come out which does have internal pockets? If so, when?

Has anyone else experienced feathers coming out of this jacket? Every time I take this coat off I am covered in feathers and I'm wondering if others have the same problem.

Is this jacket at all waterproof? It does not seem so.

Looking for a jacket to wear through very cold and windy Wisconsin winters. Anyone know what the comfort temperature rating for this jacket is/what type of weather it is designed for?

Looking to buy this jacket tomorrow when I get paid, I see a lot of people posting that it runs large but they are fairly petite. Any feedback from curvier women on the fit? I would be looking to purchase an XL.

Sarah, so I tried this in a Medium and did not feel like it ran large even in the slightest. I'm a M in like 95% of my outerwear (minus snowboarding jackets where I size up to a L to have space for layers/movement.) 5'4'', a fairly hippy size 6 in pants, M in tops, 36D in bras, and the M did not feel remotely generous to me. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I wouldn't say it runs large.

I'd be happy to set up order for you with free return shipping just in case-- feel free to reach out!

In some pics, this is a fuscia
purplelish color. Is that available in a xl?

    Diana,

I think the product photo on this web page depicts the color very, very well. I re-posted the image here.

It's a nice wine stain color. I would call the color more mauve, than fuchsia.

Also, we do have it in XL!! I love mine!

...a bit of a follow-up to the question below, asking if this coat has DWR treatment. If the answer is "no", is it possible to apply some sort of 'water resistant' treatment to it? Or can that only be done to re-condition a garment that already had DWR treatment in the first place?

Does this have DWR treatment to keep it water resistant? Thanks!

What's the inside lining of this jacket like?

    Unanswered Question

I am surprised, this jacket is very thin yet beautiful for a winter 550 jacket. It is supposed to keep warm until minus how many degrees? I am wondering if I should keep it as a winter coat or return it. It looks more like a fall coat. The cut and wine color are absolutely perfect but will mayby not keep me warm so far this winter. Thank you!

What is the weight of this jacket?

Do the sleeves on this jacket run long? My wife is tall (5'9") and slim but every jacket seems to fail due to short sleeve length.

Sometimes this can be okay if the jacket has long elastic cuffs with the thumb cutout. Is that the case with this one?

Is there a temperature rating for this jacket?

    Hey Allison,

There is not a specific temperature rating for the Evergreen Quilted Down Jacket but it should keep you warm below freezing with the 550-fill down insulation and 80D nylon outer material. If you layer appropriately underneath this would be a great all-around winter jacket.
