The 550-fill down insulation piles on the warmth, while its nylon taffeta fabric is soft against the skin. beautiful but too big

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: xs

It is beautiful, but the xs is too large for me.
I'm athletic and it looked way too big.
I wish they made it in an xxs.
    love the color

    So warm! But small

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

I have the non-quilted version of this coat (Skyline Down Jacket) and absolutely love it! Unfortunately the coat is sized rather small. I am usually a solid M in brands like Columbia and North Face so I ordered the M, and it is just a tad too tight :-/ Sadly, I didn't buy it from BackCountry's website so I was unable to return it and it just mostly sits in my closet now since its not comfortable. I would definitely recommend sizing up. If I had gotten the jacket in a L I think it would fit perfect, and I would wear it all the time. Great length and style. And the sleeves are actually long enough unlike a lot of other jackets. Overall it looks great, and I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't too small.

Love it! Cant' wait for winter

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small

It's a perfect fit, a great feel to the fabric, the sweater-like cuffs don't scratch my wrists, the pockets are so soft, it does not make me look like the stay-puffed man while ALSO not making me look like the femme-queen. This coat is pretty light-weight, not a super puffy puffy. I'm curious to see how it holds up in 30 degree weather or lower. I imagine I'll be wearing it every day.

    Not the best

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large

It's warm, I love the length and the color but overall the fabric is more bulky (especially in the upper arms) and less flattering than is portrayed in the images. It's not form fitting. But if you're not looking for form fitting you might love it!

    Ehhh

    • Fit: True to size

Would have loved this jacket if it didn't feel like I would break it. The zippers feel flimsy and the material isn't that durable. I thought trying to get the snaps undone I was going to rip the fabric. I bought and returned it. I bought is on sale for $99 and still didn't feel it was worth that price. For the full $249 no way! There is no inside pockets and just basically no amenities to the coat other than the draw cords on the hood. I did love the cuffs on the sleeves though!
    But overall not impressed.

    Quality garment

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: xl

Quality construction and attention to detail, looks great on, nice shaping, and the extra length helps it look streamlined. Has exceeded my expectations in every way. Will get to test it out in a couple of weeks in 0-10 degrees Celsius in Canberra, Australia, and again next year in Canada. Feels really snug and warm, goes on smoothly over other sleeves, hood fits nicely. Zip zips smoothly and colour is gorgeous, as in pictures. Bought size xl, and am AU/UK size 16-18, 176cm tall, 83kg. Would says it runs large according to the size guide, but that allows for layering underneath. I hope to be a size smaller by the time I travel next year, but fit is perfect now. Colour is darker and richer than what it appeared on my monitor, and is very versatile - a deep maroon with purple rather than red tones.

    Down leakage and small pockets.

Raisen color, tried on with a black sweater underneath and had to pick off too much down. Tried the Skyline design also in Raisen, no problem. As with Skyline, the front pockets are too shallow, and this one is missing an inside pocket.

Decided I'm probably going to get a parka instead of puffer style for the added warmth waiting for bus in CO mountain community. But really like the styling and fit of this puffer down coat compared to others I tried.

    STAY WARM, stay covered

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this jacket because it's so long and warm (goes to my knees). I've always wanted a coat that looks like it could cross from city to outdoors, and this is the perfect marriage. It's super warm with its down stuffing, and the cuffs and high neck keep the cold out. Thoroughly insulated. I even slept in it one night camping, because it was freezing, and I stayed toasty warm and comfortable all night. The hood is roomy and fits over a beanie, and the pockets are useful. I'd like to see an interior pocket for iPhone or small items, but other than that - I'm a believer.

    Beautiful Down but it sheds

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large

This is a beautiful down coat. So many down coats make you look like the Michelin Man but this is flattering and feminine for women with curves. It is very light and warm although not as warm as some puffier down options. I found that the coat shed a lot of feathers on my clothes which was disappointing. Given that it is best used as a fashion coat rather than a performance coat, I had to return it. I couldn't justify the feathers on my clothes when I arrived to work. I think the new Basin & Range line is a really neat concept of matching fashion with function. It just missed the mark on this item with shedding feathers. As other customers noted, you may want to go down a size if you're between sizes. I wear a large at big box stores and the large worked well for me with space for layers.

    Love it!

I'm wearing the gray coat to go to classes in WI. Has kept me warm and looks stylish, yet has enough room to comfortably layer underneath. It does run slightly large.

    Disappointed

I was thrilled when I found this jacket! It truly is a great looking jacket with great specs! I am an avid Patagonia wearing gal and I loved how this jacket offers a style that Patagonia does not. That being said, I ordered this jacket via chat and I asked the agent based on wearing a medium generally in Patagonia slim fit, if I should get small or medium since I had seen some size down/ runs big comments... I was told to go with medium and it's way too large, the arms are extremely long and there is enough space in the midsection for me to be 7 months pregnant. I called to just give some feedback regarding the size and the agent wasn't interested in hearing it and said "so what, do you want to reyn it the " could have all gone so much vetter

      Love it

This jacket is absolutely amazing and well worth the money. The new brand, Basin + Range, put out several pieces for the fall line, and this one is a must have. The best in the line.

      Let's break it down...
      1. It has cuffs on the sleeves that keep cold air out.
      2. The fit is great - I sized up a bit to the Medium, which is normal for me in jackets.
      3. The style is amazing and very slimming. Color is original and spot on. I get compliments on it all the time.
      4. The jacket is so great that my good friend saw me wearing it when she was visiting and fell in love. We bought her one for her birthday. :)

      Great piece Basin + Range!

      Great Jacket

I love this jacket. Its stylish and the grey colour is beautiful. the fabric has a look of texture but smooth to the touch. I live way up in Northwestern Ontario Canada where the winter temperatures get up to -45 degrees; so it's cold. I wanted to really test this jacket for warmth when I saw some of the other posts from the Northern US states. We just had a cold snap of -35 with the wind for a couple weeks. I walk to work for 10-15 min daily and thought this would be a good trial test. I wore only a long sleeve t-shirt under it and I was toasty warm the whole time. I usually wear a parka ranked for these extreme temp but it was at the cleaners. I would recommend this city style jacket for daily use even in these cold temperatures. Its roomy but stylish so you don't look like a big marshmallow. I have wore it hiking this winter and it was great for moving around in. The only thing I would like to see are some internal pockets for keeping things close and warm. For example a phone, gps or small camera. There are none on this jacket. Just the outer hand pockets. I am pretty muscular in size from CrossFitting but the jacket fits great across the back and under the arms when moving. It packs small and is light weight. Hood fits great when worn and the cuffs on sleeves are a nice fit as well. No problem with the zipper so far. Does up quickly without getting caught in the fabric like most of my other parkas. You wouldn't probably wear this for a day of ice fishing and sitting around outside on a cold day. But that is not the idea of this jacket but forsure it holds up for daily use and winter activities. I recommend this jacket and I really love it.

      LOVE IT!

This is my new go to winter jacket. I love the style, color, fit, length, and warmth. I have always been opposed to longer jackets and I have found that I have been missing out this entire time. It is amazing how much warmer you stay when your behind and thighs are shielded from the cold. I can confirm I don't have a single complaint for this item at this time. I will warn however that this jacket runs large. I typically select a Medium in most styles and the Small fit me perfectly with space for a few layers below.

      Stylish and Warm!

This is one of the best looking down coats around. The raisin color and fabric are beautiful. The unique stitching looks great and has a nice shape around the torso. My only complaint, similar to other customers, is the zipper, which often sticks. Otherwise the quality is very good. I live in Boston and it keeps me warm on cold and windy days. I also love the logo; it is cool and understated.

In terms of sizing it fits fairly true to size. I am just under 5' 4" and weigh 105 pounds. My frame is small, but I have cures. At first I thought the shoulders and arms may be too big, thought the extra room is great for layering. I can fit a Patagonia fleece underneath comfortably.

I also ordered the Skyline down, as I was torn between the two online. It was a tough decision. The Skyline is also a beautiful jacket though I felt like I would get more use out of the Evergreen and opted for a shorter down coat as a second jacket.

Like a flattering wearable sleeping bag!

I loooooove this jacket. I wasn't sure how much wear I'd get out of it because a long hooded down jacket seems like something you'd only need for arctic expeditions, but I find it quickly becoming my go-to for all sorts of stuff!

First off: sizing. I find it fits very true to size. I'm 5'9" 155# with a really lanky athletic build plus 36DD chest, so jacket shopping is generally a challenge. I usually wear a large in most everything and the large fits perfect for me. A pretty tailored fit without being tight anywhere and the sleeves are actually long enough, which is a rarity in my monkey-arms-world. Hits just above the knee and has a nice flattering flare at the bottom (which also makes walking in it easy).

I love the charcoal cross-dye color. It's a tiny bit darker in real life than what I'm seeing on my computer monitor, and I love it. The color has a little texture to it that gives it a little somethin-somethin to separate it from the herd (not just a one-note color). The pockets are a good size and they zip up, which I love. Pockets that don't zip are largely useless to me so I was super stoked to see that feature. The feather print lining is super cute, too... it's nice when you find little extra details that make something special.

This jacket is so nice and toasty. I live in Oregon and it's been the perfect jacket to throw on for morning dog-walks when it's 30 degrees out. With the thing fully zipped up and the hood up, it's like you're walking through the woods in your own personal sleeping bag! It's also really nice to wear around town and for work too; really fashionable and very flattering, and the heather color goes with just about everything.

All in all, I absolutely LOVE this thing. The only con and the reason that I docked one star is the double zipper. While I can appreciate other peoples' need for unzipping things from the bottom, I rarely find a use for one on anything other than a mountaineering jacket and to me it's really just kind of a pain. It regularly takes me a couple of tries to get the teeth in perfect and get it zipped up and it's come unzipped from the bottom up once or twice if I don't lock it in just right. That said, I totally wouldn't let that stop me from buying this jacket because its rad features heavily outweigh that one con!

Has anyone else experienced feathers coming out of this jacket? Every time I take this coat off I am covered in feathers and I'm wondering if others have the same problem.

Is this jacket at all waterproof? It does not seem so.

Looking for a jacket to wear through very cold and windy Wisconsin winters. Anyone know what the comfort temperature rating for this jacket is/what type of weather it is designed for?

Looking to buy this jacket tomorrow when I get paid, I see a lot of people posting that it runs large but they are fairly petite. Any feedback from curvier women on the fit? I would be looking to purchase an XL.

Sarah, so I tried this in a Medium and did not feel like it ran large even in the slightest. I'm a M in like 95% of my outerwear (minus snowboarding jackets where I size up to a L to have space for layers/movement.) 5'4'', a fairly hippy size 6 in pants, M in tops, 36D in bras, and the M did not feel remotely generous to me. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I wouldn't say it runs large.

      Diana,

I think the product photo on this web page depicts the color very, very well. I re-posted the image here.

It's a nice wine stain color. I would call the color more mauve, than fuchsia.

Also, we do have it in XL!! I love mine!

...a bit of a follow-up to the question below, asking if this coat has DWR treatment. If the answer is "no", is it possible to apply some sort of 'water resistant' treatment to it? Or can that only be done to re-condition a garment that already had DWR treatment in the first place?

Does this have DWR treatment to keep it water resistant? Thanks!

What's the inside lining of this jacket like?

      Unanswered Question

I am surprised, this jacket is very thin yet beautiful for a winter 550 jacket. It is supposed to keep warm until minus how many degrees? I am wondering if I should keep it as a winter coat or return it. It looks more like a fall coat. The cut and wine color are absolutely perfect but will mayby not keep me warm so far this winter. Thank you!

What is the weight of this jacket?

Do the sleeves on this jacket run long? My wife is tall (5'9") and slim but every jacket seems to fail due to short sleeve length.

Sometimes this can be okay if the jacket has long elastic cuffs with the thumb cutout. Is that the case with this one?

Is there a temperature rating for this jacket?

      Hey Allison,

There is not a specific temperature rating for the Evergreen Quilted Down Jacket but it should keep you warm below freezing with the 550-fill down insulation and 80D nylon outer material. If you layer appropriately underneath this would be a great all-around winter jacket.
