the boots are super comfy...the only thing that worries me is the thin leather laces. i pulled one out already from where its attached to the other one--not a huge deal but I hope they don't break anywhere along the boot
also...if you have really dark jeans that you haven't washed a million times, the color will come off on the fur and leather (i have the sand ones)...

While I've never owned these, I can make an educated guess based of similar style boots: they are likely waterproof for short amounts of time--like if you stepped into a slush puddle and quickly walked out. As for the height of the waterproof membrane, I don't know. From the picture, it looks like it's gusseted all the way to the top. These are primarily made for snow--not walking in water. If you're using these for snow (with the occasional slush puddle), your feet likely will stay warm and dry. Baffin is a reputable company, and I'm sure backcountry.com would honor a return if you aren't satisfied. (Waterproof is always a fairly subjective word.)

These boots are true to size and comfortable like slippers. They are warm and surefooted in this icy snowy tundra that I presently live in. I get many compliments on their appearance.

I spoke with someone at backcountry who said these boots run true to size. I normally wear a 9 in boots (patagonia, Columbia) but a 8.5 in shoes and a 10 in running sneakers. I ordered these in a 9. I would call backcountry's customer service--- they are so helpful!--- and ask them

They are lined with some kind of insulation, but the fur that you see is just where you see it - a stylish trim.

Bought these for the wife's mom...and she's super stoked! She said they were a very nice all-around boot for casual dress or just getting you where you needed to go. She said they were very warm and that she didn't need to wear thick socks with them. She also liked that they weren't big and clunky. Most of all she loved that they were sleek enough to be dressy and that you could use them for almost any occasion. So there you have it...a great mother-in-law present.
