The ergonomically-mapped Backcountry.com Synth Trail Crew Sock ensures dependable comfort and durability whether you’re lapping the mountain singletrack or sneaking off on an urban reprieve. This slightly stretchy sock knows how your foot likes to be hugged. Light mesh on the top of the foot vents heat, while spandex reinforcements make sure everything stays put while you run. The three pack means you’ll have plenty for the weekend. Oh, and the big Goat logo on the Synth Trail Crew says HI to those on your tail.
Bottom Line: The Synth Trail Crew Socks knows how to take care of your feet.

I use these socks as an inner sock to a thick wool sock for hiking. My last trip left me with wet feet for two days, and no blisters. Plus, you know your big time when your socks are made for a left & right foot...
For Christmas my boyfriend wanted socks. His current sock collection consists of cheap socks which are supposed to be white but have turned grey. The elastic is so worn that they slide down into his shoe & under his heel, which he hates. I saw that these had great reviews & since they're lightweight they're great for our sweaty Arizona heat. They fit snug without constriction. He loves the color.(doubt these will turn grey) The only thing that bugs him is that they are such a material that attracts pet hair like no other. Also in case anyone was wondering there are designated 'left' & 'right' socks with corresponding cushioning which may help prevent his bunions from growing any more.
They feel pretty comfortable, but the strategic placement of material is a kinda overkill. Also felt a little slippery in my shoes too, which I think is from all of the different fabrics. They do breathe super well, and they're ugly as sin which I like since your socks get trashed on the trails anyway.
I have been wearing 6 pairs of these socks exclusively for 9 months in SE Alaska. They are comfortable, breath well, and most importantly while living in a rain forest, dry quickly. They have held up well considering I would only use 2 pair per week and was doing trail crew work which required me being on my feet from sun up to sun down and in a world of trench foot my feet were rairly a problem. For the price you won't be disappointed!
Can't say it is the best looking sock, but it certainly is comfortable. Great for running, whether on the trail or road. I switched to synthetic running socks a few years ago, and haven't looked back. This one will keep me running for years.
I wear a size 9 - 10 depending on the shoe. I decided on purchasing a L/XL, do you think this will be the right fit?
If I don't hear from any one I will make sure to put that info in my review. My size is common yet it falls right between the two sizing options which really stinks!
A size L/XL measures 6.25" from heel seam to toe seam. (heel seam to top is 7"). This was intended for 9-13 but if you're a 9 or a ten, a medium should work just fine.
A S/M measures 6" from heel seam to toe seam. (heel seam to top is 5.25"). This was intended for sizes 5-9.
Got these mostly for hiking in the summer, but have found them to be great as a casual sock for everyday use in the winter too. My feet always feel cool, comfortable, and dry. The only hitch to these is the right and left sides which makes for a nice fit, but they need to be matched up correctly on laundry day.
I like backcountry socks. They're comfy and look good. I've worn them trail running, road running, and riding my bike and they are comfy. Even worn them casually. Do have to make sure that I get the "L" and the "R" on the correct feet, but I like them!
This is 'feet-down' the best running sock I've ever owned. I run an average of seven miles a day, street and trail, and this sock keeps up with everything. Never bunches, never rolls, never twists or slides... They dry super fast, are practically odor-free, even after two or three days without changing them, and I NEVER got a blister wearing these.
I bought about 10 pairs, crew and minis, in 2009. I am amazed they are still in great shape after all these miles and I would readily buy more if they were back in my size and preferred color.
The SynthTrail Crew Sock fits my foot very well and the "breathability" is excellent. They do not provide much padding or extra cushion so make sure your shoe is a tight fit. If you have space in your shoe your foot will slide. I have used these with the KEEN Targhee 2 Mid Hiking Shoe. The socks are okay with this combination. I usually use Smartwool or Bridgedale socks with great results. The SynthTrail is incredibly thin and tends to slide around in the shoe. I would recommend these for a tighter trail running shoe rather than a hiking shoe.
For some reason this sock is a magnate for hair. If you have a cat or dog it makes these a nightmare.
Normally I wear wool socks for longer efforts, but I took a chance on these during the Orcas Island 25K and despite splashing down in a big puddle my feet were warm and comforatble. The awesome blue color is a nice bonus.
I used these for several road races and logged many training miles on these this year and they kept my feet cool, dry, and comfy. Also you can feel the extra cushion in the heel and ball of the foot...very nice. I wear a size 10.5 shoe but decided to get the S/M, and it was a great decision. They fit perfectly.
I'm a fan of these socks. For the money, you won't find another three-pack that fits or supports your foot this well. I like the strategic zoning, since I get blisters easily through thin socks, but I don't want a heavy sock either. The only negative I am predicting is that somehow, I will end up pulling 6 Left socks out of the dryer, with no Right socks to be found anywhere.
...But the best part is mismatching them! They're cheap enough you can buy 2 sets and mismatch the colors all you want. I actually bought 3 sets, because I'm really into mismatching different colors of the same thing.
One Obnoxious Downside: These things pick up hair and fuzz like few other socks I've had, and it'll stick on the sock through the wash. My house is infested with dogs, so I don't wear these unless I'm headed out the door or in shoes. :)
Love these...Great deal, move in the shoe well (I like a snug shoe and a little more slip between the sock and shoe)...they're warm, but breathe well so not to get foot rot...and I love the non standard colors with the goat logo on the heal. Definitely beat the heck outta my wigwams
I picked up a couple 3 packs of these on clearance a while back not expecting too much. These things are amazingly comfortable. I tend to have sweaty feet but not in these babies. I stay comfortable and dry. Its hard to notice i have socks on when i am wearing them. No need to look any further.....
I use these socks for running and hiking and they're very comfortable and dry. I don't like how every little piece of lint, hair, etc. sticks to them though. Love the goat! And it's kind of cool to have socks designed for right and left feet specifically.
Love them and you will too. Great socks, very comfortable. Just hate when they are all dirty and dont have them to wear, guess I will have to buy some more.
I use them for cycling because they don't feel mushy like other socks in the bike shoe. They are a little thin, so hopefully they don't get holes in them too soon. They also have a design on them that indicates which foot it goes on (R/L) which I thought was funny. I wish they came in a no-show cycling version.
These are solid. They're comfortable hiking for a while, but they do smell after a while. Not too bad, though. Get the socks. The non-padded areas are very thin, though, so they're not cold weather socks.
I purchased these socks for the intent and purpose of using them when I run trails, I have done some of that in them and have found that they are quite comfortable. But I have also just worn them around, to work or hang out, and they bother me unless I am wearing a tighter fitting shoe as they are so thin that they get uncomfortable when they are not supported well by the shoe. Overall a good buy.
Socks fit like a glove - I wear them for running and also for road biking. Not a ton of fabric so I keep them in the draw on cold days but otherwise pretty happy with these socks.
My Montrails are size 10 so I went with the L/XL, but due to the tongueless design of the shoe, they're a little tight when I'm putting my foot in. These socks run a little large, so the heel gets pulled back when I'm putting my shoes. I can get it to fit with no wrinkles but I wish I had gone with the smaller size. Nice thin socks, great feel around the foot, love the asymmetric design.
I have used these socks on everything from 4000ft approaches up to Lone Peak Cirque and in the Tetons to quick hour trail runs. They are super comfortable with padding in the right place and they breathe great. They do a good job of wicking moisture away from your foot. Because of this they do stink a lot after 3 or more days of use but what did you expect after that? You do need to be careful when taking them off or putting them on a sweaty foot. Since they are so light you can rip the area above the heel pretty quickly. Other than that they have no durability issues. $25 for 3 pairs of long lasting, light socks is a great deal also!
These socks are cool. For those of us who love backcountry.com what better way to show your support? I wouldn't wear these with hiking boots but for hiking, climbing, really any sue theya re comfy, thin and styling. They do get a bit warm for their thickness but that is the only downside. Also we bought 2 pairs (3 pairs each) for $9.99 on an awesome BC sale. I would not pay $25 for 3, $10 was a good deal.
I've been loving these on my daily runs, then I used them on a 12 hour adventure race and liked them even more. Only changed socks once all day, feet were wet all day, no blisters or hot spots at all!
Cheap(price), comfy, wicking and stylish(in an outdoor gear way). They have lasted through long hikes and tough approaches, dont stink and fit very well. My $.02- Buy em'. Oh, and they are labled L and R in case you had too many after adventure beers!! lol
Very comfortable socks. Lately most of the socks that have any cushion seem to be too thick. These socks are both thin and supportive. I love the blue.
Good sock with extra thickness in places with the most wear while walking. It is thin and lightweight. It wicks sweat well from my experience. It will slide a little in your boot because it's thinner than other hiking socks but I haven't gotten any blisters from it yet. Anyway, it's a good sock.
I think these socks are an excellent short sock for a variety of activities. I have worn them around the office and on a series of day hikes. They can be a little warm for my feet when inactive, which surprised me, but they were very comfy on the hikes and I would recomend them. PS I got them on sale, which makes them even better.
I will definitely purchase these socks again.....I do work for backcountry but I'm not biased....my feet sweat on good hikes and these socks kept my feet dry and cool.....WILL ABSOLUTELY GET AGAIN!
great lightweight socks, with the sick goat logo. comes up a little higher than i wold prefer, but other than that they are quaility. i am an 8.5 and the sm/m fits perfect.
These socks are perfect for my feet besides loving to hike. I'm on my feet most of the day at work. They're so light and cool and the padding in all the right places. I had to go back and get some for working. I can really tell the difference and the end of the day. Try them.
I don't know what it is about all my other socks but they get worn out very quick. I usually go through the heels or foot beds and sometimes the toes super fast but these puppies are nice. Tough as nails but light as a feather. They feel like your sliding your foot into a cloud that forms to your foot and gives you tiny kisses on it all day long.
The cushion is just perfect in all the right places and the thin layering in other places helps keep your feet from getting too hot. When they do get hot and sweaty though these things suck it right up like a SHAM WOW and it disappears. I have bought many 3 packs to replace all my other semi par socks.
I really like these socks. I use them for hiking, cycling, running and pretty much everything I do. There really thin which I like and they wick moisture pretty well. Don't really notice the difference in wearing a sock that is meant to fit specifically on your left or right foot though. Maybe I'm just not gear savvy enough to notice though.
I bought 9 pairs of these in 3 different colors. They're absolutely amazing, they breathe well, are comfortable and also don't get that funk that other socks do. I wear them as a casual sock and also when working out. I'll never buy any other socks. Purchasing more as we speak!
I use these socks for running and have no complaints about them. I have used them every time I have gone running through the summer and fall. Contrary to what others have mentioned, none of mine have gotten holes or have fallen apart in anyway. I also haven't noticed any stench.
The sizing is true, they are comfortable, the price is good, i will get more.
I bought a pack for my boyfriend to use biking and he got holes in them on the first use (at least 2 of the three pairs). I don't know if there is something going on in his shoes, or if he was man-handling them, or if he just got a lemon pack... but unfortunately they did not work out.
I mountain bike in these and they generally do a good job of keeping my feet cool and dry. Would love to see a broader range in size as L/XL is a little roomier than I'd like for a size 10 foot...may be a little too thin when the weather drops, so planing on it being a summer sock.
These are great form fitting socks. The are comfortable and they are a great deal. They are a bit slick in your shoe, but that's what this type of sock does. I wouldn't wear them in hiking boots. I'd use wool socks for that. These are great for my tight fitting bike shoes and I wear them for running too.
They got the padding right and I like the fit. They are on the thin side and are a little slippery inside in my shoe. My foot slides a bit when I'm hiking. My feet got hotter than with cotton socks.
these are running socks, not a hiking sock. they are intended for a lightweight, ample cushion and support. and very little else. these socks will be much cooler than a cotton sock if running, or getting after it.
These socks are comfortable and fit nicely without any bunching. However, be careful when pulling them on. I stuck my thumb right through the goat pulling them on. Now I have a big hole in the back of my one sock.
These socks aren't bad. They're pretty thin, especially in certain areas. That works well to keep your feet from getting too hot/sweaty, but it seems like it might shorten the life span of the socks. Time will tell I guess. The synthetic material does tend to pick up a lot of hair and stuff, so it may not be the thing to wear around the house if you have a lot of pets or shedding rugs. I like how they feel when you put them on - supportive and snug - but as other people have said, they do kind of slide around in your shoes, especially if the shoes are smooth on the inside.
The pricing on these socks is killer. And they look great, and run really well. They fit well, are nicely elasticated, seem durable (so far). BUT they do seem to get smellier quicker than my other socks. As long as you put them on to run, and take them off afterwards, you'll be fine. But I can't really recommend them for all day use. :-(
Socks! Train in these bad-boys, throw on your sneakers with these bad boys, do whatever in these bad boys - visit grandma in these bad boys, kick your more...
