Made for women who thrive in the outdoors, rain or shine.

There's a storm churning in the mountains, but thanks to the Women's Stash Shell, you're headed out into the wild anyway. At just 13 ounces, this technical shell is hardly noticeable in your touring or trekking pack, and it doesn't feel bulky when you're wearing it out on the trail either. The Stash shell achieves its feathery lightness without sacrificing any of the high-end weather protection that keeps you dry summer through winter. You still get shell material with welded seams and a waterproof rating high enough to fend off a torrential downpour, underarm zips to control temperature, and a fully adjustable hood so you can adapt to foul weather.

    • 20K-rated waterproof fabric offers supreme protection from downpours, heavy snow, and precipitation
    • 20K-rated breathability allows the fabric to transfer sweaty moisture from inside the shell outward and away from your body
    • Bombshell Lite fabric uses mechanical-stretch construction to offer supreme flexibility that moves with you as you slide, climb, and trek through the hills
    • Fully welded construction eliminates opportunities for leaks to occur at the seams and improves overall durability
    • 3-D ergonomic fit means that you can move your shoulders, arms, and torso without experiencing binding or feeling held back in any way
    • Fully-adjustable hood easily fits over a ski or climbing helmet so you can protect your head and face when a storm rolls in mid-session

    Not bad!

This is a pretty good shell! I love the fleece lined pockets, which are also long so I can easily fit my phone and gloves in them without them bulging out. Arms are nice and long, and there's plenty of room to layer underneath without looking boxy. The only reason I knocked off a star was the slightly odd shape. I love the fitted waist. However, the hips were a bit too narrow and the shoulders were pretty huge, like it's cut in a "V" taper, for a very broad shouldered, narrow-hipped woman. Were it not for the cinched waist, I would have thought this was a man's jacket. Weird :/ Still, I like it enough to keep it. At least the tight hips will keep wind from blowing up the bottom...

    Solid, well crafted shell

Overall, I really like this jacket. The design is well thought out and fits me better than any other shell I've tried (and I've tried at least 10 different styles) because it's cut in an hourglass shape so it fits over my hips rather than squishing them. It's a little too hourglass for me because it's a bit tight in the waist if I wanted to wear more than a light, fitted sweater underneath, but not bad for wearing in the shoulder seasons. I tried on the large instead of the M (I'm 5'4/34D, 145lbs) and I was swimming in it. This jacket really did fit the best that even though it was a bit tight in the waist, all the other plusses outweighed it.

The fabric is a nice 3-layer waterproof so that it doesn't feel or sound too much like a plastic bag. I wore it with just a merino t-shirt and was quite comfortable. The handwarmer pockets are lined with a light fleece, the only one in the mid-priced rain jackets that I tried on! Welded seams and a nice interior chest phone pocket with a slot for a headphone cable round out the design.

I'm not a fan of the mint zippers (I don't do pastel colors), but they're such a small bit of the overall design that it isn't bad. Plus the fit is just so good that I would still *probably* wear it if the jacket were mint and the zippers grey.

I haven't weather-tested it yet, but comparing the fabric to all the others I tried, it should perform as expected - comfortable and dry.

    Great rain jacket

    • Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

    • Size Bought: Small

Bought this for my wife who uses it to work outside in all conditions. Initial thoughts are that it was even nicer than the photos on the site. While normally an XS, she chose a Small which accommodates additional layers for when it's rainy AND cold. The hood works well in the rain and mobility is great as well, with no issues lifting or similar. Only used a few times, but initial thoughts seem to point to this being a great rain shell.

    Perfect rain coat

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

This jacket is great for rainy days. It keeps me perfectly dry. I like that it's a tailored cut and fit. It's not insulated so it only wouldn't work on super cold rainy days or you'd have to wear more layers underneath. Compared to other rain coats I tried it was a little bit heavier but I wanted that so that it keeps me a bit warmer. I like the grey and green colors too!

This jacket is a true gem. It's a pretty light shell, lighter than I expected, but it is very well made and looks great! The fit is very flattering, the sleeves are so long (my sleeves are never long enough!!) and it's long enough in the back to keep snow out. I haven't worn it in rain, but it kept me warm and dry in 40 mph wind and blowing snow with a subzero windchill! It's cut a little too close to wear many layers under it, but I was able to wear a base layer and heavy fleece jacket under it pretty comfortably. I love this line of clothing!! Way to go Backcountry!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING JACKETS WITH LONGER SLEEVES!!!!!!!!!

    Unanswered Question

    1. Backcountry Stash Shell - Women's
only $85, it seems to be a great choice. But there is only one color. Compared to Patagonia Torrentshell women's $129, with more color choices, which it a better one?

    2. I should wear xs according to to size chart. But is that wit layers or without layers? my size is xs, I will wear a base layer and a down jacket for mid-layer, so as for a jacket, what size should I wear, small or medium?
