This shirt is pretty decent for the price. The sizing ran smaller than I thought it would and I have a very thin neck and I felt like the zippered part of the shirt needed to be just a little bit wider.
However, Backcountry made sure that the wool was very soft and not itchy at all! I was hiking through the Swiss Alps in this shirt and worked up a sweat and this shirt did the job really well!
Just a few minor adjustments and the shirt would be phenomenal!
merino wool is as soft as cotton. the wool of the old days were course, and itchy, but the merino that backcountry uses, is very fine denier (18.8 micron), and knit into a very soft jersey. you will not want to take it off!

Love this shirt. The light weight makes it great as an overlayer when you're sweaty and taking a break and don't need anything as heavy as a windbreaker. It's soft enough (not cashmere, but plenty soft) to sleep in. It layers easily, making it a good base layer for cooler trips. The collar's high enough and the zipper's deep enough that it's become a must-take for most season backpacking.

I wear this shirt on every run on every unwarm day in the fall/winter/spring. It's great alone on cool mornings or under a fleece and jacket on cold ones. I love the longer sleeves that pull over my hands, which, because of Reynaud's, turn to iced-up clubs at any given temp below 55 degrees. The thumb hole allows me to pull the sleeves down and over my liner/running gloves for added warmth. I've found over the years, that if my wrists are cold, my hands are cold. This shirt does the trick. I love the neck zip for temperature regulation. It's soft as your favorite blanket and because of the merino, stays odor free use after use. I know. Like I said, I wear it every day (and I don't do laundry every day). But, just so you know, if it ever gets to the point where I can't imagine wearing it one more day without washing, I plan ahead to get it ready to go in time for the next morning run. Because I'm not going out there without it. I treat this shirt well, washing in cold water and hanging it to dry. I'm not sure if that's necessary, but I want it to live for a long, long time.

This fits true to size compared to other outdoor clothing companies fit. I wear mediums in everything even none outdoor company clothing and the medium in this fits me perfectly. So I would get whatever size you wear the most of regularly.

This is my wife's favorite shirt! Just another great product put out by BackCountry. Sizing is right on. This thing is really great, can't even tell there are seems, zipper length is great, material is amazing. All in all this thing is the best shirt my wife owns! Thanks for another great product BackCountry!!!!!!
