With its soft, naturally odor-resistant 18-micron Merino wool knit and ˝ neck zip, our Backcountry.com Women's Merino Bliss Lightweight Top covers you in functional comfort, minus the synthetic funk factor. We made this next-to-skin top with ridiculously comfortable New Zealand Merino, rub-reducing flat-locked seams and side panels, and a body-heat venting ˝ chest zip so you can blow off some steam after a mean summit push or a tricky boulder problem. Merino wool transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Bliss Top begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. Stash your lip balm, energy gel, or other small items in the Bliss Top's zippered chest pocket for safe keeping while you're on the go. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Bliss Top's collar ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.

Bottom Line: The Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Top takes you to a transcendent level of layering happiness.

A versatile lightweight long underwear top that has an awesome feminine cut, very very handy zip top side pocket that I use for my ipod (and other items), and a nice high zip neck that protects well from wind and cold. I use this top for climbing, skiing, touring, running, yoga and other sports- it is a piece that can be used for almost any outdoor activity. It also has a nice long fit, which helps greatly in sport so that your entire waist is covered when in motion, and it has long arms that allow for partial wrist/hand coverage with handy thumbholes. The side paneling design is really flattering, and the reflective goat is an added bonus.

Her favorite LS base layer

By:

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend and it became her #1 hiking & skiing layer. & it looked super cute on her, too. Unfortunately, moths ate it up pretty badly last summer. I'm waiting for it to go on sale to buy her another one JUST like it.

woolie wonder

Love this shirt. This is my second one. I have the purple colored one as well. I decided after I bought the first one that I needed a second one to rotate in for use.
Wool is the way to go for base layers. I have a couple of Smartwool crew neck wool shirts but I much prefer the zip neck for ventilation. Wool just doesn't get a smelly as my Patagonia undershirts.
The price is right and the sale price is a bonus. Keep 'em coming.

Definitely Recommended!

Fits true to size. Although the arms are a bit baggy. I was impressed with the fit, most of the other brands that sell merino wool do not fit me at all...this one is great!

LOVE IT

By:

I own a lot of baselayers and this is my absolute favorite! I am comfortable regardless of temperature changes. On a backpacking trip, my friends continuously added and removed layers while i never needed to. It is a loose fit (I hate skin tight clothing) but unfortunately, the neck is also loose when zipped and it is a little see though. I want to buy more but the only size on the site right now is XL :(

I have always loved Backcountry's merino wool products. Now my girlfriend loves them too. This shirt is true to size and has not shrunk much in the wash. Its one the best under layers for the winter and great for sleeping in. She is in love with it and i dont blame her! I am in love with mine too!

Thumbhole? Pinkeyehole!

By:
January 7, 2010

The shirt fits fine(I'm 5'5'' a little under 130, and I'm in a medium), although I agree with another reviewer who said that the collar is too loose (so I wear a neck gator). It performs well for back country skiing, despite the chintzy-feeling material (I was expecting the material to be a bit heftier than a thin t-shirt weight) and seemingly low-quality workmanship. This questionable workmanship is exemplified in the left sleeve where the thumbhole in the cuff actually falls at my pinkeye. I bought my boyfriend one of the men's shirts in this style at the same time, and his right thumbhole is actually a pinkeyehole. So I give it an "adequate for the job" rating. Thanks "Made in China".

Different Fit

By:
January 7, 2010

I ordered a small and it fits, but is snug through the chest even on me. So, if you are well endowed go up a size. It is a nice shirt for the price. I like the fact that the neck isn't too tight when zipped up. The zipper is a pretty good length too.

Great service

By:
January 12, 2010

I purchased this top for my big sister for Christmas (that's right, I said CHRISTMAS). She really liked the top, but it was a little small on her, so she returned it for the next larger size. Unfortunately, the color she wanted was out of stock by the time the exchange was finished, so Backcountry sent the lighter color. The good new is, she really likes it. She said, "They were extremely friendly, very helpful, and patient."

If you knew my sister - that's a very high compliment (we come from a long line of disfunctional perfectionists!). I have before and would buy from Backcounrty again, and in addition to the good service, the price was outstanding!

weird fit

By:
April 6, 2009

I really wanted to like this top, but it just didn't fit me right. The torso was fitted, but the arms were way too baggy and long, and just not comfortable. The collar was too loose to add much warmth.
On the plus side, the wool is among the softest I've ever worn. Overall, this top gets the job done, but for the price you can certainly do better. My Icebreaker tops fit so much better than I just had to return this one.

Perfecto

I use this more for running in that not warm enough for t-shirt but not cold enough for jacket weather. I like to go up a size for backcountry gear too.

sweet shirt

I love this fabric and the fact that this top is so much cheaper than other brands like Icebreaker. I love having a zip neck to help dump heat as well.
I wasn't so much a fan of the chest pocket but love the thumbholes and the length of the shirt.
