Description

An anorak with mountainous warmth.

You check the weather at the mountain—cold. You check the weather at your climbing spot—even colder. No matter, just reach for your Backcountry.com Men's Hadron Down Anorak, pull it over your head, and start loading the truck. Lofty goose down insulation provides all the warmth you need, and the  Pertex Quantum shell material shrugs off wet snow and precipitation. Because this jacket uses snaps instead of a zipper, the Hadron is as light as the feathers it's insulated with. This is a mountain-bred down jacket made for ski touring, snowboarding, climbing, and camping when you can't afford to waste pack space or let the cold get to your core.

  • DWR fabric coating provides light protection against wet snow and precipitation
  • Pertex Quantum 30D fabric has a low weight but high abrasion resistance, and it's highly-breathable to allow sweaty vapor to escape so you feel comfortable
  • 3-D Ergonomic fit gives this jacket a tapered and athletic fit with particular attention paid to range of motion in the arms and chest
  • Kangaroo pocket gives you a place to tuck your hands without fumbling around with zippers
  • Jacket stuffs into its own pocket to form an alpine pillow

Here's what others have to say...

Is the hood snug fitting or is it made to wear a helmet underneath? How's the torso cut and length? Boxy or form fitting? Waist length or 5\8th? While I'm here, is the blue color only blue on the inside?

Responded on

Ok, let's do this: No helmet compatible hood (maybe check out the Dynafit Cho Oyu 750 fill hooded); torso has a Draw Cord; form fitting; waist length; blue is only on the inside. Hope this helps!

whats the temp range for this anorak?

Two Winters and I Still Love My Anorak

I use it as a jacket, pajamas, and combined with my down pants it makes a great sleeping bag! Light weight and packs small. I wish they made a higher fill version for colder temperatures, but other than that it is exactly what I was looking for. Also no zipper makes it warmer and more comfortable, especially if you use it as sleepwear!

Awesome!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Light, Packable, Warm. This piece is fairly thin for a down which can be nice for the slightly warmer days. Nice piece.

Are these no longer made in size small or is it that size small is just out of stock? I certainly hope there will be more smalls in he future. I'm get to find a better made anorak in this weight range.

Responded on

Hey,
The small size is out of stock. Unfortunately, I don't have an expected date when we will get more of that size.

does anyone know the weight? love the kangaroo pocket..i got pouch envy!

Unanswered Question

Would this layer well with arc'teryx beta AR? I'm in between a M and L. The medium anarok and large beta ar are closest to my size. Should I get both M, both L or a M and L?

41.5 chest, wide shoulders, 5'8

What does this jacket weigh (preferably size M)?
Also is it really box baffle not sewn through?

Responded on

A medium weighs about 8.1 oz

Best Answer Responded on

I have one of these and they are definitely NOT box baffle constructed. They are sewn-through. Nice piece but not box baffled.

Does this version have a drawcord hem?

Responded on

Awesome picture Cory !!!

I selected this image to feature on the Community Hub at the bottom of the Backcountry.com homepage! Congrats on being utterly GOATWORTHY !!

I am 5'11, 195lbs, athletic build with a slight beer belly... thinking about investing in one of these for the winter. Can anyone give me a suggestion on what size to get?? L or XL?

I normally go up to XL for hoodys and jackets but I know down jackets are supposed to be more of a true fit... Thanks

Responded on

Large should work. I'm 6 4" 195 lbs and large works. Xl would be too wide for it's intended purpose, plus the sleeves should be falling in your stove, unless you have gumbo arms ten ft long

Nice for Ice

Nice for Ice

A nice layer for those days when you hike up to your favorite swimming hole and find that it's still got a layer of ice over it!

is the hood removable, and if not is there...

is the hood removable, and if not is there a similar version that has removable?

Responded on

The hood doesn't appear to be removable, and I believe the only other form you'll find this jacket is in one that doesn't have the hood (see: Backcountry.com Backcountry Hadron Down Jacket). Hope this helps.

A bomber piece.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I'm 37" chest, 5'6" 160lbs, Medium fits perfect, not tight, not loose, just right.

This (as with most Backcountry brand clothes) is Stoic with another name. The kangaroo pocket is generous, however there's not a significant catch on the side - so things may fall out easier than preferred.

The wrists are great. On the Original Stoic Hadron, they had thick tight elastic cuffs. The current model has lighter, more stretchy cuffs - very comfortable.

The hood is a great size, hit me right across the forehead; so the hood doesn't blow off in the wind, but doesn't flop in my face.

How many ounces of down fill in this...

How many ounces of down fill in this piece?

Responded on

Brandon,

Good call. It isn't really fair to say 850-fill without backing that up with a fill weight. The Backcountry.com Hadron Down Anorak has a 2.3 oz down fill weight.

Is there a size small version of this...

Is there a size small version of this anorak? I see the non-hooded backcountry.com hadron down jacket in small, but not this anorak.

Responded on

Hi David,
Unfortunately we have completely sold out of the size Small in this model and we do not have any more ordered to come in. Sorry about that!

Buy it! Hadron Anorak is perfect

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have owned this product for a month and put it through the ringer and it is comfortable and looks great I've gotten compliments all the time and I would buy another one in a second the only suggestion I would make is if they had a version, a pullover without the hood and possibly a synthetic pullover as a lower-cost option

Winner Winner Goose Down Warmth

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Yep, no chicken dinner with this winner, only warmth and a light weight goose down mid layer jacket.

Was talking with one of our gearheads who was sporting this jacket and ask how they liked it. Emily was flowing with compliments and I stated I'd be picking one up soon as a mid layer for mountaineering. Two hours later a supervisor ask what size jacket I wanted. Hmm, go figure I just spoke about it and now I won one.

Ok, the jacket itself is awesome in warmth and the ability to pack it small for my packs. No weight to it just good old warmth. I'll be carrying this on all trips and wearing it on some of the PNW glaciers soon.

Oh yea, it also is sporting the BC goat logo letting others know that you have awesome abilities and great at hand knowledge of gear.

Exceeded Expectations

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Is way more compact than I had initially thought, and the perfect addition to a layering system. Warm by it'self with only a T underneath, and perfect with a hard shell over the top for snow and rain. Well worth it.
