Nothing digs like a goat.
Avalanche pros know what's up when it comes to gear, and for years they've been using, abusing, and trusting the G3 AviTECH shovel for snow study pits, avalanche rescue, and the occasional big ol' backcountry booter. Built with a flat aluminum blade, the AviTECH is perfect for digging out smooth pit walls or chopping through debris, and has several slots designed to facilitate building a rescue sled. The aluminum shaft is tough and durable, but a blast of adrenaline can kick you into overdrive in emergency situations, leading to a snapped shovel—to remedy this, G3 designed the telescoping shaft in two parts, allowing you simply remove the broken section and continue digging. This edition has been styled out with the Backcountry.com goat logo, helping it to stand out whether you're scooping out a kitchen on Denali or digging practice pits in your backyard.

Your buddy the shovel
- Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I gave this as a gift to my gf since she needed a backcountry skiing and sled shovel. Here is what she had to say.
"Backcountry does it right! Reliable, light weight, sturdy shovel helps get you out of sticky situations. I did have an issue when I first fully extended the shaft. One of the pins in the middle got out of alignment, so only one pin was holding the shaft extended. After putting it back down and extending it again, the issue fixed itself. I think the metal on metal sliding just needed to wear in a little bit because it hasn't happened since. All in all, couldn't be happier! Get the goat!
It's true
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
It is true what everyone else has said. This is indeed a shovel. It will scoop and move snow. It was also pack down and fit in your backpack!
The best thing about this shovel is the D handle. I seriously prefer this to the T handle. Feels way better in the hand. Great pice for a good shovel.
This is...a shovel...
- Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
There are shovels. And then there are shovels. This is the latter. Kierkegaard once said "Home is where the trembling stops." This is the shovel that builds you that home...made of snow. I have it in the back of my truck so that when I am stuck in the deep snow of the backcountry, I can take out this shovel and dig myself to hope. Don't just buy one of these shovels...buy one hundred...

A shovel's a shovel, but this one's got a goat on it.
Simple, clean design. Lightweight, packable. Nailed it.
Backcountry.com G3 AviTECH shovel
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
This is the exact same shovel as the G3 AviTECH shovel but in a cool blue color and sporting the Backcountry.com goat logo!
"The" shovel to have if you are working in the snow industry. As mentioned in the description, the flat blade profile makes it easier to dig smooth faced snow pits/profiles.
Get this and be the envy of all your ski buddies!

Fine shovel
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
Still haven't figured out what separates this from the G3 avitech, but the build is solid, the blade is metal, and shaft fits relatively tightly together.
