Really nice, and featherweight

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I'm amazed at how lightweight this jacket is, and how small it packs down. I feel that it runs true to size, but it's designed to be a trim, sleek fit so it may feel small if you're used to a looser cut. I'm 5'6, 135 lbs, 39" bust, and the large is a perfect fit. It's definitely cut for a woman's figure, with enough hip room that it skims over nicely.

nice but tight in the shoulders

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket to wear at night inside my sleeping bag for the -20 and colder weather. works great for this- no extra zippers or ties, minimalist jacket which is warm. fits well (I'm usually a small) other than being tight in the shoulders- won't be good for strenuous activity (I could see it ripping easily). True to size other than in the shoulders.

Good quality for the money

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

Ordered this for the wife, good quality and she loves it. She's 5'4 and 115lbs and the small was pretty tight in the shoulders so we ordered a medium and it fits perfect.

Great jacket- Poor Construction

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket was SUPER CUTE and very warm considering its small size and ability to zip into its own pocket. I was so excited when I got it in the mail, but after only 2 days of wearing it down was already falling out. I have a couple down jackets so I'm def ok with some down falling out from use, but didn't expect it to happen just by walking around town for a couple days.

I returned this jacket, but was sad about it.. It was really cute and fit perfect but was afraid that by the end of a month there wouldn't be any down left!!

Great buy...very pleased

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've had this jacket a few weeks now, and so far I'm really pleased! I'd been hunting for a down jacket to replace a Patagonia Down Sweater I'd returned (different retailer - I wanted to exchange an XS for and S but couldn't). Can't beat the price on this one (I used an additional Outlet coupon I got through email), so I decided to give it a try.

This jacket is incredibly light-weight (comparable to my husband's Patagonia down shirt), and has an interior pocket for stuffing itself into. We're avid campers/backpackers, but I haven't had a chance to try it on the trail yet. Around town, though, it seems to retain warmth quite well. I got sprinkled on the other day, and the moisture beaded up well (I wouldn't venture out in too wet of weather, though).

It has a nice flattering cut, and the color (Charcoal/Nickel) is a lovely dark gray with a slight sheen (light gray/matte silver inside - I think you have a choice). I' 5"3ish, approx. 135lb., with an athletic build, and ordered a size Small. The hem of the jacket sits a little below mid-hip, but it's plenty roomy. I didn't have the same shoulder/sleeve restriction as the previous reviewer. However, the sleeves are slightly long on me (but I like that since it lets me pull my hands in when they're cold). Overall it seems like a good jacket at a great price -- I'd recommend it!

Great performance-sizing could be better

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I ordered this jacket to be worn under my shell jacket while snowboarding. The performance of this jacket is great! I've used it in both warm snowboarding days and in super chilly weather. In both conditions, the jacket has kept me warm, but not overheated. Sizing seems true to size, however, the cut of the jacket does not seem right for my body type. I originally ordered the medium, which fit very well in the torso, however, it was too tight in the shoulders, back and in the sleeves. The sleeves are narrow and I have some muscle to my biceps and forearms, so this was a bit too snug for my liking -- I like to have full range of motion while snowboarding! I exchanged this jacket for a large, which fit much better in the shoulders and back. It was a bit roomier in the sleeves, but still just a tad too tight for my liking, particularly because this fabric does not stretch. However, with this sizing, I find that it is now way too big for me in the torso. Worn under my shell, it's not bad at all, but worn by itself, I look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I don't mind the sizing snafu, however, because the performance is great, and the price is right! It's very well priced compared to most down jackets/sweaters. It does not specify in the "Tech Specs," but in case if anyone is wondering, the fabric is Pertex Quantum and the fill is goose down. I ordered mine in the "indigo." The picture shows it to be royal blue, however, it is definitely a beautiful deep purple! Oh, wait...that's indigo!!! Duh!

Indigo is supposed to be a purple-blue color! :)

I have the same jacket and found the shoulders and chest in my normal size were tight on me as well.

Is this jacket windproof?

Is this jacket windproof?

The Backcountry Hadron Down Jacket, like most lightweight dow jackets, is not completely windproof because it lacks a windblocking membrane found in many softshell jackets. The Pertex shell and the down itself will block some wind but I would not classify it as windproof.

After a long search, I have finally found my down jacket. Being 5'11" with a slender build, it was tough to find a jacket that fit my body. This jacket, size M, is just the right length with nice long sleeves. And out of all the 850 down jackets I bought trying to find one that fit, this one has the best feel, holds in the warmth best, and still folds down into its tiny little pocket. Oh, and the gray is lovely and gets lots of compliments. I've left my other winter jackets behind. I'm glad I finally found you, Hardon! And at a steal of a price, too!

My wife loves this jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

It is a lightweight, functional and good looking piece of gear. Perfect as a mid layer, or an around town jacket. She also likes to sport the Goat. At 5'7" 110 pounds, size S works well for her (she can be a small or a medium). It has taken the top spot in her puffy collection. If they had more colors, I would be in big trouble.
