Description

Don’t stress over what to carry in the backcountry—you can take it all.

You don’t want to stress over whether or not you’ll be able to take extra layers, your helmet, and all of your backcountry equipment with you, because each piece of your kit is vital. With the BCA Stash BC Winter Pack, you don’t have to stress, because you can take it all. The stowable helmet carry system makes it easy to bring along your brain-protection, and space in the main compartment means there's room for that warm puffy and extra snacks. One trip and you’ll understand why this Stash is BCA’s best-selling backcountry pack.

  • Molded back panel and fully adjustable waist-belt and shoulder straps keep the Stash BC firmly strapped to your back so you hardly notice it’s there when you make your descent
  • Top-access main compartment comfortably stows your extra layers, and has sleeves for your shovel blade, shovel handle, and probe
  • The Stash OB features a diagonal and A-frame ski carry system as well as a vertical snowboard carry system so you can comfortably get your ride to its launch position (all carry straps tuck away in designated pockets when not in use)
  • A stowable helmet carry system lets you take the protection you need to the backcountry without having to deal with a helmet flopping around on your pack while you skin
  • This pack best fits torsos between 17 and 22 inches

Agreed

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have to 100% agree with Danesh, but disagree about the material. I think the material is as tough as any denier out there. I think the flaw is craftsmanship and design. The pack does not fit the contour of my body adequately and I continually feel like the adjustments on the pack loosen up while in use. This is super annoying when ascending with an aframe and your skis keep loosening up. I like the design, and the pockets are definitely standard, but my complaints outweigh my positives. Overall I think BC needs to go back to the drawing board, and reinvent the stash.

Poor material and construction

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm giving this pack 2 stars only because the size/shape/layout was exactly what I was looking for, replacing my 10-year old REI 25L snow pack which I still have and is going strong after all these years(I just need more room for my day tours otherwise I would never give up my REI.)
The material and construction (thread/stitching quality/padding) from the get-go I could tell that was not going to survive pass the first year). But I still decided to test it and not return it immediately. I used it about 6 day tours in about 6 weeks and if you look at the pictures you?ll that it?s already as I guessed it the stitching is coming apart. And nowhere more important than the shoulder strap where if it had failed in the middle of a climb loaded with my skis; I don?t even want to imagine what would have happened. On the same day (use #6) on my descent the torso cross strap which I heavily depend on popped off the track and was never able to slide it back on again (how stupid is that?).
Under no circumstances I would ever touch this pack or any other BCA pack until they completely overhaul the material and construction method while still retaining the great ergonomics of the pack. I already ordered my North Face Patrol 34 from REI which I?m looking forward to many, many years of great use for only $40 more in cost.

Great organization

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This pack is great for back country day trips. It does expand to be very large on the back rather than big along the back, which I am not a huge fan of. The straps are comfortable and although the insulated hydration bladder sleeve is difficult to thread, it works well with the BCA bladder (I don't remember the name of the company that makes it but not a right angle mouth piece). The mud room is excellent for shovel, probe, skins and wet gloves/ clothes but doesn't fit much else. The snowboard straps work well for carrying ropes and the diagonal ski carry works well for skis. I may be returning it for a bag that is more compressible and holds more because of ski mountaineering and longer touring trips. Over all I think this is a great bag for day trips.

Stash BC

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I really wanted to buy this pack because it's got all the right features I look for in a backcountry pack. However, there are a couple of issues with the pack which prompted me to return it before I used it. One, the shoulder straps are way too wide for my average build - they cut into my arms. Second, it's difficult to thread the hydration tube into the shoulder strap, especially if you've got a right-angle valve on the end of the tube.
