When you’re loading up your pack for a trip into the backcountry, don’t forget to grab the lightweight Backcountry Access Snow Saw. This versatile mountain tool holds up whether you’re cutting blocks for snow shelter or digging a snow pit to check stability. BCA marked the saw in five-centimeter increments for a quick reference when analyzing snow conditions. The rubber handle provides a sure grip, and an included sheath ensures you don’t punch a hole in your $500 shell jacket.

Bottom Line: An essential tool for your backcountry tool belt.

Nice Saw

I used this saw for my ave course and it seemed to work just fine. It struggled a little with the harder snow but still got the job done. The handle and blade cover are nice. I also found the measurements on the blade to be very helpful.

Amazon has the shipping weight posted at 11.2 ounces, so somewhere around 10+ ounces after the packaging.

It's a cheaper saw. It does the job, but the blade is can be wobbly in thicker snow.

I know I can cut wood with my bone saw, which is a really nice thing to have in the backcountry - emergencies like splints or starting fires, etc...I am not sure if this saw cuts wood.I can also attach my bone saw to a pole for cutting deeper in the snow pack. It doesn't work that well for this, but it is better than the BCA one which doesn't have an option for this.

Backcountry Access Snow Saw

The Backcountry Access Snow Saw is no bone saw, but for what I needed (very occasional snow pits) it's totally adequate. Lightweight too, the only thing is that the blade guard comes off in your pack if you don't put a rubber band around it, but that is easily fixed with a hair rubber band that won't get cut by the back of the blade.

I love this saw.

BUT, the protective safety sheath is kind of bogus. It's very thin and barely covers all the teeth + the end of the saw (which is kind of sharp). I ended up making my own out of a thick peice of cardboard and some tape (works great). Also, it doesn't slide very well when you're in the field, it gets stiff.

This snow saw gives a great cut, feels good in your hand, and isn't very heavy in your pack. Great for completing your avie kit.
