As the slope cracks above you and swallows you in an avalanche, deploying the airbag from your Backcountry Access Float 30 Winter Backpack can help to keep you on the surface of the slide, prevent burial, and eliminate the most time-costly step of any avalanche rescue. When you pull the ripcord trigger for this pack's built-in airbag system, a compressed-air cylinder inflates the 150L airbag in less than two seconds and increases your mass so you 'float' in the slide. This can greatly reduce or eliminate the time it takes you companions to dig you out once the rock-hard debris settles. The success of this system has been proven with saved lives, but the best policy when traveling through avalanche terrain is to educate yourself, travel with knowledgeable partners, and make informed decisions that always err on the side of safety.

- In the event of a slide, the integrated, completely reusable airbag system increases your chances of recovery and survival by helping keep your body towards the top of the avalanche debris
- Square-shaped bag inflates to a volume of 150 L within two seconds after you pull on the release handle; bright-color handle is conveniently located on the pack's shoulder strap and is stowable when not needed
- Airbag also helps protect your head and neck areas during a slide without limiting your vision while you attempt to escape from the avalanche
- After deflating, the bag can reveal a pocket of air to buy you and your rescue team precious time
- ***Included air cylinder is sold EMPTY, but can be filled in one of the many BCA-authorized refill centers (check BCA's website)***
- Only weighs eight pounds (with the system) and features comfortable shoulder straps, a waist-belt, and leg loops to keep the pack secure when deployed
- Main compartment features 30L of space, enough for the layers, food, water, and crampons to equip your full-day tour
- Separate shovel and probe pockets keep your avy gear handy so you can use it when things turn bad
- Helmet carrying system secures your brain bucket in transit or during the approach
- Diagonal ski-carry straps hold your planks while you boot up the ridge, and a snowboard carrying system (sold separately) secures your board
- Top goggle pocket is lined to keep your eyewear in good shape while you hike, and waist-belt pockets hold your camera, radio, cellphone, or snow-study essentials
- Hydration sleeve (bladder sold separately) and compatible shoulder harness lets you pipe your water to your mouth
- Twin compression straps cinch down the pack when not filled to capacity, and help attach additional gear during long tours
