Awesome for taking notes in backcountry
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I've been wanting to log my tours and observations lately. I tried using my journal for a bit but it was such a pain during a storm. The BCA field book is awesome, it's been fun to look back and see my adventures, and really nice when I want to review my previous observations of the snow pack this year.
MalloryStaple Field Book
No complaints here. The field book is organized very nicely for field work. The Rite in the Rain paper works great with a pencil and wont get soaked as the snow, sleet, freezing rain, or rain. I highly recommend this book to any backcountry traveler.
Brooks Range also offers a field book, but I prefer the setup of the pages in this one.
Ryan Gibbs"Rite in the Rain" is legit
I have one of these notebooks made by "Rite in the Rain" (generic cover, not AIARE). They work as advertised. If you need more credibility, I was turned onto them by military personnel.

jus_gary"Right in the Rain" is the brand that makes this specific AIARE field book. I believe the Ryan is wanting to show the "Right in the Rain" books work as advertised in that, with a pencil, a use will be able to write in the rain or any situation (snow) where moisture is present on the page. My experience shows that this specific AIARE field book works great when moisture gets on the page as long as I am using a pencil. Don't make the same mistake I did the first time using the book in using a pen vs. a pencil. The AIARE book has great information and a good layout for backcountry travel in avalanche conditions.

I've used this book as well... works as advertised, and has lots of cheater notes in the back incase you need a refresher.
