Prepare yourself with the proper avy tools.

Act like the stealth snow ninja you were born to be with a little help from the Backcountry Access Arsenal Shovel EXT with A2 Blade and 28cm Saw. BCA cleverly stashed the 28cm Saw in the Arsenal's shaft and built it so that the shovel can function when the saw is in use—you know, for testing the snow or fending off killer snow bunnies.

    • Clever system allows you to slide the 28cm snow saw right from the T-grip handle without disassembling your shovel
    • Tough-as-nails aluminum shovel blade offers a high strength-to-weight ratio so you can depend on the construction when lives are on the line
    • Shovel's extendable shaft gives you the extra reach and leverage for fast digging, and it easily collapses for even easier attachment to your pack once you're on the move again
    • Oval shaft with a 'ferrule-less' blade, ergonomic grip, and T6 heat treatment offers a more packable, bombproof shovel
    • T-grip can be looped through and worn without a pack with user-supplied webbing or rope
    • Pre-punched holes in the shovel blade make it simple to set up a sturdy snow anchor or emergency litter

    Snow Saw!

A snow saw might not be something you'll use everyday, but when your out there and do need one, whipping one out of your shovel is probably the most convenient thing ever, plus it's pretty badass to whip something right out your handle and start hacking away at a branch or cutting snow into bricks. Can't say its the lightest shovel in the world, but I'm not one to count ounces, so overall this thing gets the job done in all the right ways for me.

Compact and Ready to Shovel & Saw

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The shovel is nice and big which makes it convenient for moving snow efficiently and fast. My main problem with this style of shovel is that I had to disassemble the post from the shovel head to get it to fit into my BCA 32 Float. I think it is strange that they didn't design a ready to deploy shovel for their pack, and I'd be concerned about putting together the shovel in a rescue situation . The saw is great, but it would be better if it was a full 30 cm saw for CTs. This is a great shovel but I would consider one of the Black Diamond shovels that doesn't need to be assembled to be utilized. Maybe this shovel can fit into the larger part of the BCA pack, but I like having my rescue gear on the outside pouch to keep my gear organized and readily accessible.

      Everyday Shovel

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This shovel is part of my everyday backcountry pack. It's strong and easy to put together, but is very light. Therefore, I can still feel like myself when I am skiing and not worry about pack weight when I am throwing tricks here and there.

      Whats in you Arsenal

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Arsenal shovel ext with A2 blade is what you want. Not only can it move a lot of snow with ease, it allows you to have a saw on you at all times without taking up extra room in your pack. The saw is great for conducting snow study tests, but is also extremely convenient when you or your buddy raps your sled around a tree. It saved me hours of digging and hard work multiple times this season thus far. It breaks down nicely and fits in your Float or Stash pack like it should. Very light weight, durable, reliable tool for all your expeditions. A must have if you take your days serious, and by serious I mean having fun with the right tools. Best regards.

      Nice little saw

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The saw is a nice extra. I have used this shovel saw combo many times to dig my snowmobile out and remove debris from the trails. The shovel is very sturdy.

      Awesome item

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great item. I actually got it primarily for camping (firepit digging, and cutting firewood with the saw) as I use the arsenal with the probe for backcountry. That being said, it's great to know that I now have a spare shovel to take in the pow should the worst case happen.

      Great Shovel

This is by far the most effective shovel i have used. The blade is big enough to move snow fast and is great for building jumps in the backcountry. The saw blade is plenty strong to use for cutting down branches to make shelter or clear a path. Super light weight without the saw in the handle. I would reccomend this for anyone who gets in the backcountry for saftey as well as building!

Is this saw strong enough and long enough to be used for ice block cutting, etc. on Denali?

We had the crappiest of crappy saws on Denali and made it work. This one is definitely better than that so I would say yes it will work but, I would also suggest investing in a better one. With the amount of ice sawing you do up there you will surely be jealous of anyone who owns http://www.backcountry.com/ortovox-snow-saw?ti=U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHM6c2F3OjE6NDpzYXc&skid=ORT0164-SI-ONESIZ
