Performance doesn't have to be toe-numbing and soul-crushing, at least according to the cats at Atomic, who designed their Race Skate Boot with a 104mm last (for comparison, Atomic's World Cup last is 102mm) that's narrow enough for racers and plenty comfortable for long training days or recreational loppets. Compatible with Atomic/Salomon SNS Pilot bindings, the Race has a Boa lacing system that tightens with the twist of a knob to conform to your foot, and ratchet buckle around the upper ankle that limits unnecessary ankle movement and helps transfer power efficiently into the ski. There's a carbon insert in the footbed, and the outsole features carbon reinforcements, which work together to make the boot exceptionally stiff, providing precise ski control and efficient, powerful acceleration. Atomic included a heel strap, too, to provide a more customized fit, and a seamless lace cover with a central zip to keep out snow and moisture.
